Around the Big East

Really sad news. That's a tough place to be and an illness where people aren't generally bringing casserole's over but criticizing your fortitude. I hope this ends well.

And the reaction you describe is exactly the reason ESPN, which is about as scummy a mainstream media outlet as there is, has no business reporting something like that from "sources." Disgraceful as usual from them................

Rutgers just beat Michigan in Football and they tore down the goalposts in front of a sellout crowd of 55,000. I guess nobody likes college football in NJ.........

They should be embarrassed by their behavior -- getting excited over beating Michigan this season is pathetic.

Rutgers draws well and they have for a long time. My mom's whole family is from New Brunswick, and my uncle and cousin are die-hard RU fans. They even travel to away games. Rutgers has a huge enrollment as well--58,000 students. Go 30 miles away in any direction and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone that cares about them.

They didn't tear down the goalposts. The University lowered them after the game ended to avoid the tear down. It was actually a fairly controlled celebration.

In 2013, avg attendance was 46,549. Avg attendance in 2012 was 49,188 up 12.4% from 2011. In 2011 43,761 fans per home game.

1-Michigan: 111,592
2-Ohio State: 104,933
3-Penn State: 96,857
4-Nebraska: 90,933

Impressive numbers.

Really? First Big Ten win when all they heard all summer was how they couldn't even compete in the league. They had every right to celebrate; even though they are down Michigan still has a roster full of 4-5 star recruits.

Yes, really. You tear down the goalposts when you beat a 2-3 team?

Rutgers only has a capacity of 52,000 and that is after expanding a few years ago. They could have drew over 60,000 fans yesterday against Michigan.

And, c'mon! Let's be reasonable...Rutgers is never going to be Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, or even Nebraska. Three of the schools you listed are in the top five in the WORLD (and top three in college football) for largest capacity and Nebraska is #20 in the world (#12 in college football).

For a northeast school, Rutgers draws extremely well, but not many people care about them to watch on TV.

I wasn't drawing a comparison. The numbers about Rutgers that I quoted supported your assertion that they draw well. I saw a list of the top drawing program, and posted it because they are amazing numbers. I'd agree that Rutgers draws well especially considering that we don't live in a hotbed of college football.

@ReggieRankin: Breaking News: Henry Ellenson has informed @ESPNRNHoops he is headed to Marquette Story and Scout's Take on the way.http://t.co/5YX8d8FG9v

@PaintTouches: [New to PT] Reports: Henry Ellenson picks #mubb over Kentucky and Michigan St.http://t.co/ve8Ay9LVW3

He is a top 10 recruit - ESPN has him top 5--so this is absolutely great news for the Big East. Made even sweeter by the fact that he rejected Kentucky.

I believe Ellenson has a brother at Marquette, if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: I just read the article. I knew the younger Ellenson had a sibling affiliated with Marquette. Good job, but certainly an easy sell.

Your attempt to trivialize Henry Ellenson's commitment to Marquette lacks merit. Yeah, Henry's brother is a member of the Marquette team but he is ranked as a 5* player as the #17 in this recruiting cycle.

Henry had offers from all of the top schools( Duke, Kentucky, UNC and others) but chose to play in the Big East Conference which is the same league which many on this site would have you believe has caused StJohn's to swing and miss over the past 2 recruiting cycles.

Henry Ellenson has the potential to be a big time player in Big East but he is not even the top ranked recruit that has committed this cycle to play at a Big East school.
