Around the Big East

what does this mean for the bigeast tourney seeding?

Currently, moves us to 5th place. We can't finish higher than 5th now. But we can finish anywhere between 6th and 7th (though, I doubt we finish 7th).

Basically, if we win Saturday, then we're locked into the 5th spot. That means we'll either play Xavier or Providence in the Big East Tournament, if we win Saturday.

Xavier finishes up, at home, against 'Nova in a couple days, while Providence heads out to Omaha to play Creighton this weekend.

Providence wins. Marquette should be kicking themselves.

Choked it away, hopefully it takes the life out of them and we win going away...

Based on what I saw tonight, it wouldn't count on it (a "going away" win, that is) -- This team has a lot of heart ... and a great coach, and the hometown crowd.

The look the feel of Cotton, my favorite player in Big East not on the Redmen, made the same play he made on Hooper when Hooper was blamed for a loss that so many others had a bigger part in. Great game!

So at this point, going into Saturday:

A Win - #5 seed, and play providence

A Loss - #6 seed, and play Xavier

Definitely more comfortable against providence, let's get this win Saturday.

Yes, Thomas pulled a Hooper...No discredit to Providence as they play with a lot of grit...But, handed two games on the same type of mental lapse

Providence can still finish in 3rd place. If Providence wins their last game, and Xavier loses their last game, then the Friars get the 3rd seed.

Who we're playing hasn't been determined yet.... Win or lose.

hmm i rather play creighton in the next round of the bigeast tourney than nova but i don't want to get ahead of myself. win on sat and thursday first

One of the most fun games i've ever been to. Buzz Williams can really coach his ass off. Marquette really struggled to finish around the rim with PC's shot blocking which could bode well for us

i thnk they can be in 4-5 game if win saturday

if lose can be 6th or even fall to 7th if gtown beats nova

if 7th then have to play wed night

 With nine seconds remaining in double overtime and Marquette with a one point lead, bonehead #1 (Thomas) takes the out of bounds pass and hugs the ball (remember Hooper). Obviously hoping to get fouled, instead the refs call a held ball - Providence ball. The Friars have possession under their basket. This is where bonehead #2 comes in, D. Wilson jumps for the outer bounds pass and collides with Cotton. Game over as he makes both foul shots. This point guard stinks, he can't shoot fouls and has no jump shot. His totals for the game, double overtime mind you, were 1 point and 3 assists. I guess you kind of figured I was hoping Providence would lose. It was still a great game to watch. BTW, Mayo had 26 points and was clutch throughout.

So if us, Providence and Xavier all end up 10-8, how would that shake out for seedings?

X gets three seed and we play Providence in the 4/5 game.
When three teams tie it comes down to best record v. other two and since we crapped the bed against X, they get it.

If we were to lose against Marquette, I'd rather Gtown win and us get the 7 seed. Beat Depual/Butler round one, somehow beat Nova backs to the wall round two, get a rare easier game in round three against X, Prov, or Gtown, and then play presumably Creighton in the championship game. Win or lose we'd be in. I'd much rather that then playing Xavier first and Nova second. Of course, I rather just beat Marquette this weekend :)

FWIW, I think the most likely scenario is a three-way tie for third place with us, X, and Providence.

Interesting and smart;

@FriarFrenzy: AC Bob Simon on last night's radio post gm w @JRbroadcaster & Joe Hassett said told refs in last TO they were not fouling right away. #pcbb
