Per Zagoria, a good get for the Hall
2017 @MVABasketball F @Mamukelashvili5 has committed to Seton Hall. Story coming.

Excerpt from Zags blog on the 6'10" 220 pound PF.

“His upside is tremendous,” Montverde Academy prep coach Kevin Boyle Jr. said. “At his size he has a rare ability to shoot from the perimeter, handle the ball in transition, locate teammates, and finish drives at full speed in traffic.

Coming to the U.S. this year he hit a brief learning curve with so many athletes and so much size around him, but he is now emerging as a guy that can not only impact the game with perimeter skills, but also compete on the glass and guard inside. The good thing for him is he still isn’t even close to as good as he is capable of being.”

As for what skillset he will bring to college, the native of Tbilisi, Georgia said: “I think I’ll bring a lot in college, like my passing abilities, pushing in transition, getting my teammates open and a winning attitude.”

We should have sign up Seaton Halls recruiters

Problem is, as has been pointed out on numerous occasions, we have one recruiter even though we're paying for two. Matt can't be everywhere, especially with regard to the 5th year seniors, who often turn up unexpectedly and who need to be corralled quickly, especially giving the often-intense competition for them. Anyway you look at it, paying a well-connected recruiter like Slice to do nothing is taking its toll ... and will likely continue to.

Talked to Seton Hall commit Sandro Mamukelashvili. Said he hung out with Angel Delgado on visit, and expects to play with him. Hmmm. #shbb

I don;t understand why Messrs. Richmond and St.Jean are not picking up more slack by making off campus visits to AAU tournaments to easy the heavy lifting which Coach Abdelmassih is being asked to make.

If the school wants to be cheap, I'd be OK with both of them leaving and replacing them with one guy.

Eerily reminiscent of the times I would see Tony Chiles in the CTK gym and no Lavin or Jim Whitesell or Rico Hines and certainly not Gene Keady. And, like Slice, Mo Hicks disappeared.
"plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose"

Per Zagoria
Sandro Mamukelashvili, the 6-foot-10, 220-pound power forward from Montverde (FL) Academy, 'is leaning hard toward Seton Hall,' per source.

A kid we initially recruited

Matt should have made more stops at Montverde while delivering Maybellin to Zach Brown. Would have been a good replacement for Freudenberg.
WOW PERHAPS WE ARE GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION SH is doing better than us all around

Oh look, another 6'9" kid that likes to play on the perimeter and shoot threes. We stopped recruiting him for a reason.

Steal for the Hall. They need offensive threats in the front court and this kid is real deal.

If everyone is back SHU is going to be loaded next year. This kid seems like a nice add for them in addition to the Top 100 SG they have coming in Cale. Even if they don't find someone to play point, Carrington should be able to handle given depth at SG with Powell/Cale.

Agree.

SH also just signed home & home agreement to play Louisville the next two years. It will commence in Louisville this December.

Pitino and Willard's father are very close friends (both were assistants with the Knicks, under Hubie Brown). That's how Seton Hall was able to get that series.

Kevin W was on Pitino's staff as well. Ralph Willard also coached St. Dominic's HS on LI, Rick's alma mater.

Their site is also saying they were close to playing Kentucky but they only wanted to play the Hall @ MSG not the rock. Similar to what they did with Providence a few years ago playing at Barclays.

Hall site also saying they are playing in the Under Armour games at MSG again next year. I wouldn't mind us some how getting in to that doubleheader.

Be interesting to see if we get a good big 10 team in the Gavitt Games this year. Especially where the game would be at MSG and not on campus.

Be interesting to see what Willard does after this year. Reality is it's looking like their third straight trip to the dance and the best and most experienced roster Willard has had on paper to do some work once they get there.

Would not be surprised if opportunity is there for Willard to make a move if this year pans out well for SH, and he capitalized on it especially because they are likely to take a step back the following year. Although they are in far better shape there than I thought they would be with Powell/Cale, and a big year this year should only help with '18 recruiting.

What Willard did in recruiting back in '13/'14 certainly seemed like desperation. But have to give him a little bit of credit, it worked. Been a long time since SJU went to the NCAA T two years in a row and were well-positioned for a third straight trip.

I would love to see Clark play his former team, Michigan State

Shaheen has been doing a great recruiting job for them, Without really snaring a knockout recruit they have been populating their roster with a bunch of good, not necessarily great players. It works. If they land 1 knockout recruit watch out.

Am I stretching it too much in saying that by not agreeing to take Whitehead's coach in order to sign him it ends up causing Lavin his job and ends up,saving Willard's job?

Quite possibly.

Definitely the latter.

Lavin lost his job because, for whatever reason, he stopped working. Period, end of story....he could have saved his job had he worked at it because given the effort I am sure he could have kept us at an acceptable level. We are not UCLA nor are the expectations here remotely the same.
