St. John's guard Shamorie Ponds wins his fourth Big East Rookie of Week honor, one more than Creighton's Justin Patton. #sjubb

From SJU press release;

QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2017) – After averaging 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and two steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Red Storm, Shamorie Ponds has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, it was announced this morning by the league office.

Ponds, the sixth-leading scorer in the conference at 17.2 points per game, garners the recognition for the fourth time this season, a league high. The 6-foot-1 guard is one of just three players in the conference to collect the award more than once this season, pacing three-time winner Justin Patton of Creighton and two-time recipient Kamar Baldwin of Butler.

Congrats to Shamorie. As Dean Martin used to sing:

[strike]When the moon hits your eye
Like a big pizza pie
That's Amore[/strike]

"When the ball hits the net
On a pass from Lovett
That's Shamorie!"

Go ahead, sing it. It's catchy!

Finally, someone revealing they are as crazy as me on this board.

Possible edit to

Although they won last night, Boeheim probably doesn't want to play another team who has a player with the last name of Rowan. Maverick, Ronnie's son, scored 31 points last night against th Cuse including a 3 pointer which put NC State up by 3 with about 10 seconds let. Cuse won in OT as Gillon 43 pts) hit a tyiing 3 pointer with 1.3 second to send the game into OT.

Watching SH-Gtown and since we are in close competition in the standings with both I am rooting for both to lose. Wish they could both lose.

Syracuse beat Virginia today. Looks like we just beat another tournament team.

Watching Creighton versus Xavier right now and announcers showed the Big East standings and then started to talk about how well we are playing as of late. It was very nice to hear.
A great game by the way. Tied at 69 with under 4 to play.

How is Angel Delgado not on the Kareem Award watch list? I asked @Hoophall and got a response: (link:http://on.app.com/2kJjvzl) on.app.com/2kJjvzl via @AsburyParkPress

Agree, how is he never mentioned for BE POY; Hart is a terrific player, no question, but Delgado has been the best player in the conference this year.

Syracuse won at Clemson in a nail biter. Getting closer to the tournament.

I think Clemson wanted Syracuse to get into the NCAA Tournament.

How else do you explain (a) not guarding the inbounds pass, and (b) not putting any pressure on the Syracuse ball handlers until the ball reached the three point line?

They deserved to lose, based on that defensive possession alone.

Hard fought game between SHU and Providence just ground to a halt by a 5 minute stop to figure out time left at about the 3 second mark, just comical IMO

Length of games, broken momentum with commercials, reviews & bad officiating with so many fouls, are making college hoops far less appealing. (At least to me.)

I agree 100%. Those negatives are all over every sport. Only sports I watch religiously now are SJU and UCONN women (yes I realize I open myself up with that one but being very old school, I appreciate the one team that still just consistently plays the game the right way.)
