Oh was that a bullcrap call right there!

The love affair with Archidiacono continues. If you are in a tight game with Nova, I wouldn't even touch him.

The pathetic thing is I don't think he even did touch him I didn't hear one Nova fan think that was a foul, all I heard from a few were "we never get any calls so we were owed one". Ref ruined a great game.

First off, I agree the call at the end of the game was terrible. But as I saw it, as happens with many bad calls, I believe the wrong ref made the call. The ref under the basket on the other side of the court whom Bentl (I believe was the Providence player) had his back to; therefore preventing the ref from seeing whether there was contact or not made the call. Arcidiacono exegerrated contact (an unbelievably smart play if an SJU player did it) and got the call.
BTW, there was an equally bad call against Virginia in their game against NC; Anderson for Virginia made a clean swipe at a pass down 1 with somewhere around a minute to go and was called for a phantom foul that played a very prominent role in preventing VA from coming all the way back. Very few here want to own up to it but unfortunately bad calls are part of the game; refs are human.
Great games though.in the BE. Talking about refs the last 1.9 seconds of the Xavier / Gtown game took about an hour because the refs had to sit at the scorers table for that long for some reason or other before they decided that the ball needed to be put in play. I hate replay and the ridiculous way it kills the flow of any game with a passion, always have, always will.

Bad calls are a part of the game. Doesn't mean we can't complain when those bad calls are made

The replay kills the end of games. Plus it works as an extra timeout and there are way too many if those start off with. Players should not be able to go to benches during replay review. I missed 2 traines with all that nonsense last night.

Also can these coaches stop with calling a timeout to set up plays at the end of games, it hardly ever works. To me it gives the edge to defense who have a chance to get set.

College basketball is terrible in that regard. Make the shot clock 30 seconds and make the tv time outs every 6-8 minutes instead of every 4. Way too many stoppages

I just watched the end of the Nov game on DVR. Wow. the Providence fans must be going ape sh*t.
Really tough call. Really tough.

God, I have posted a million times I support people posting whatever they want; when did I ever say anything about not complaining about bad calls? I just think many fans (not just SJU fans) dwell on a bad call as a reason for an outcome and IMO it NEVER is. Yes, providence got a bad call on essentially the last play of the game but there were hundreds of plays leading up to then they could have used to not be tied at the end. That is my point always about refs and calls. But please don't interpret ANY post I ever make as trying to influence someone to NOT post what they want.

@NJHoopsHaven: Final AP Top 25 is in: Villanova's No. 2, Wisconsin No. 3. Georgetown at No. 22, Providence 27th, Xavier 28th.

@AdamZagoria: Source: DePaul job is 'Ben Howland's to turn down.' Also in mix (or trying to be): Bryce Drew, John Giannini, Steve Masiello, Bobby Hurley.

If he's smart, he will.

@prepbullseye: Those I've talked to about it know I've said from get-go Ben Howland is top candidate for DePaul job. If he wants it, it's probably his.

Why?

Because any school that would envy the last 25 years of St. John's basketball is in terminal condition. Shrug at the new arena.

And Howland should be able to do better. Still scratching my head at Marquette.

SJU is "better" ...

There you go dreaming again.

How could the Manhattan AD take Masiello back without imposing an impossible buyout at least for a few years?

I was just thinking that as I saw Masiello's name as being considered for DePaul. What a kick in the head that would be to Manhattan. I guess he could bring his Navy Seal influence to DePaul.
