strange team, Xavier up and down., Now they go to the Hall, who desperately need that win

Looking forward to that game,Salty Dog. Looks like Willard's back on the hot seat -- at least among SH fans..

Impossible. I could have sworn Willard was going to revolutionize coaching. He was feted with accolades for out smarting everyone by coolly hiring Tiny and bringing in recruits.

Truth is, he built a house of cards. The early season success just masked it temporarily.

Yep. Some posters here are envious of seton hall for having Willard. Seton hall is going down the same road we were on. They got a great class to get everyone excited but unfortunately their coach isn't a good basketball mind or game coach.

I find it funny how some posters like Willard but dump on Lavin, because they are close to the same coach.

Most posters know KW is not John Wooden. Some may envy his class this year, but jury is out on what he does with it. Reverse side of Whitehead injury I guess is he sticks around. SH does have a nice returning group.

i think this is a big beef with the Lavin detractors- assuming Chris and Jordan leave along with the seniors, what we have next year doesnt even resemble a team.....

And what if they do?

Throw in Sampson, Greece dude, Diallo, akele, and Lovett? And that DOES resemble a team.

See, we can both play that game,

this is assuming everything breaks right, and nothing EVER breaks right for us.

The point I was trying to allude to was that both scenarios, yours and mine, were jumping the gun. I don't know what the roster will look like next year, neither do you, and seeing Lavin getting involved with many recruits has made me realize we should just be patient, as hard as it is for some.

Continuing to act like a grown-up with life experience and lacking an anxiety disorder that you project on to STJ basketball will no doubt get you in future trouble.

Haha, believe me, if we miss the tournament this year, that would make two heartbreaking seasons in a row, and if it keeps happening my optimism will slowly die out. :)

Just from the small sample size I've had of being a die hard (the last four years) I can understand why optimists are few and far between around here.

The last two days some friends have consoled me and felt bad because of a heartbreaker over the weekend, and at just 17 I've now realized I'm already so used to those kind of heartbreakers I don't even hurt that much afterwards. Tough being an SJU fan. I have to believe we will be rewarded for it though.

Provided there really is an after life.

GTown wearing special uniforms with pink trim for CVC tonight vs Xavier per the GTown Twitter site

Maybe the last time they wear them as they're getting their butts kicked.

48-35 under 8 minutes left

I'm watching. Down to 7.

Final 66-53

Xavier looked good.

Outside of Wright, Mack is best coach in the BE hands down.

Lavin is in the top 10 and has the best hair and best looking wife. He also eats at the best restaurants of all the Big East coaches and lives in the trendiest neighborhood. You see, there are a lot of positives if you look for them when it comes to our coach.

I'm fine with you questioning SL's work ethic all you like but I have to ask, where do you live? what do you eat? what does your wife look like? who gives a rats a$$ and what does it have to do with the job?

Shirley, you must need for me to place emoticons for you to comprehend my missive!
As for the job, the perks St. John's offered included a West Village luxury apartment, a salary where coach and his spouse can eat at the finest Italian restaurants (God forbid he runs into the maven at Campagnola) and as long as the next coach's wife doesn't look like Mrs. Ratface, the wife part is correct. Now as for your very personal questions about me and my wife I was a tryout for season two of the lifestyles of the rich and famous but wasn't rich or famous enough at the time. But I do wish you "champagne wishes and caviar dreams."
BTW, to satisfy your voyeuristic craving here is a picture of my wife in her Redmen jacket and Lavin T neck.

Xavier beat a hot Hoya team for the second time this season, first game 70-53. They were fastbreaking after every turnover and rebound. BTW, their first half defense held G'town to 16 points with Rivera- Smith scoring a great big " 0." Excellent ball movement = excellent coach. Going to be a tough game on February 14 at Xavier.

Considering they are 9 and 0 at home it is an understatement.
Remember Long Beach State beat them also.
