Around the Big East

excuse my ignorance but wtf is the crown tournament? Is this an NIT competitor?
With teams turning down Nit invites with the same frequency that girls in carmineabbatiello's senior class turned down his offers to be their prom dates, they are making a new alternative to the Ncaa tournament for those that didn't qualify and are putting it in fan friendly Las Vegas.

It may turn out to be stinky fish in the end but for now it's fresh caught.

Buzz was palpable. Couldn’t have asked for a better 4 teams in the semifinal.

UConn-St. John’s final would have hit 2 mill viewers.
Yes, but the fact that this game broke records with SJU playing (without UConn involved) is great for this program.

It shows that if run correctly, SJU proved it can be an elite marketable program. Recruits, their families, and agents have all saved the program’s number as a favorite.

UConn loves to pose in the mirror and flex its popularity. While SJU is not UConn yet, but SJU does get a seat at the head of the table now as well. We will have a big say in what the BE does going forward.

Not even saying this as a shot at UConn, but considering Creighton was the opponent this was a “proof of concept” to anyone in college sports paying attention what a successful SJU team can bring to the TV marketplace.

Including the SJU administration.

wonder how much of that is Pitino driven? In the past people spoke of Carnesecca rather then the school, now we have Pitino, who is on TV and social media more than the Kardashians. It's all good either way.

Give Pitino another year SJU will ride this wave next season starting out close to top ten rather than top 25 as they were this year. There will be more and better games at MSG next season and the media interest will be greater.
This is all Pitino , Shandley and Repole.

It’s almost as if NY is a big market.
A few years ago some of us posted on this site that SJU was a “sleeping giant” . Of course we did a lot of sleeping. Some would say the world had passed us by. (True) We didn’t have facilities. We couldn’t get players to come here. (Well NIL helps) Our Coaching was a disaster and our Administration didn’t care. Sadly a lot of it was true. But not all of it was but defeatist attitude had taken hold.

Personally, I always thought that we should be able to find 6 to 7 very good players every year and a real Coach who could put it all together. For God’s sake this was/is basketball crazy New York.

Finally look at us now. The Administration (Thank you Father Shanley) and a GREAT Coach finally emerged from the dust. We have sold out MSG and TV ratings reflect the passion. It’s great to have everyone back. For those who stuck out the abyss enjoy every moment of glory no matter where the ride ends. Rest assured, this time, the best days are AHEAD. Imagine that.
