Around the Big East

Marquette games should be super from defensive standpoint. Both teams generate deflections, steals and runouts. On one hand, Johnnies help defense is excellent and structured. On the other, M’Q is cat quick, hawks the passing lanes and takes more chances it seems. I believe our post D is better.

On other end of court, M’Q shoots and slashes well, while SJU kills it on O boards generates a lot of second chances.

A very physical team in SJU v a uber athletic, deep team in M’Q makes for a great game.

Hate to agree w my “told you so” enemy LMF, but coaching edge goes to the Westchester guy.

Ideal standings at the end of this weekend-

1. St. John's (10-1)
2. Marquette (9-2)
3. UConn (8-3)
4. Creighton (7-4)
T5. X (6-5)
T5. Villanova (6-5)

X desperately needs the win tonight, couple a hopeful Creighton loss tn with UConn upsetting Marquette in Milwaukee Saturday night and we're finally creating separation.

However if UConn were to lose Saturday night they are really capable of falling to the 5 or 6 line by the first week of March. They have us twice, @Omaha, hosting Marquette and Creighton as well as a road rivalry game @Providence on a Saturday. They could potentially have 7 losses at the end of the conference regular season.

If UConn loses this game (I’m sure they’ll find a way to pull this out but… yikes) are we nearing the point where UConn wouldn’t even be a good win?

That Marquette home game coming up really is the biggest St. John’s regular season game in like a decade+
The home game against UConn is already Q2 at this point. Honestly not ideal
