Around the Big East

Current BE tiers

Tier 1: Marquette

Tier 2: UConn, Xavier, SJU, Creighton (the latter may be in trouble though)

Tier 3: Butler, Providence

Tier 4: Seton Hall, Nova, DePaul, Georgetown

The difference between the BE and the ACC is that only Marquette would be in the conversation with Duke at the top of the ACC. The Tier 2 BE teams would be in the same batch as the Tier 2 ACC teams (UNC, Pitt, Clemson, Wake)

But the remaining 6 BE teams would be ahead of the steaming pile of trash that is the rest of the ACC.

Obviously neither conference is currently in the conversation with the SEC, B12 or B10 although the BE held its own against the B12.

Gotta give it up to Nova / Prov / Creighton... really dominated their matchups.

UConn - with a win vs Zaga this week- should be back to respectability (top 15) the rest of the season

I'm going to that game. It is inevitable that my natural hatred of UConn combined with the presence of 20,000 of their fans will lead me to root for Gonzaga, although that is against my/SJU best interests. But I'm only human...

Agree on all the points regarding ACC vs. Big East. My very small critique is I think Creighton and Xavier are at a Tier 2.5. They're definitely above Butler or Providence, but I do think UConn/STJ are also clearly better.

I like Coleman as a rising sophomore.

Also let’s see what Middleton and Dual look like in a month.

Just knock on wood every time all you think we cake walk them in Newark. That game may be their Super Bowl with the Richmond situation and Newark is an absolute house of horrors for us.
Can we play SH in that gym we destroyed them in ‘22?

Tied for 5th sounds worse. I'm sticking with it. How's this? They finished with the same conference record as Providence?
They won a National title that year so does it really matter where they finished in the Conference standings or the fact they were Nationally ranked somewhere between 10-12 prior to the start of the NCAA Tourney. The Natty trumps everything.

It does to me. What I don't understand, is why this bothers so many people?

The repeated inaccuracy of the place they finished in, the fact that despite the fourth place finish, only 11 or so teams in the country were ranked higher than them going into the NCAA and the fact that where they finished in conference and in the standings (which in either case wasn’t the worst by any National Champion) means nothing (accept maybe Hurley in a similar situation could use it as a motivational tool) since they won the whole damn thing.

Chill out dude.
