Around the Big East

It has been noted potential donors had zero interest in helping w NIL $ until they dumped the HC. DePaul has many alums with money as does Chicago business community. We’ll see.
The collection can has the name Dusty on it. They are looking for a grand slam.

The Athletic article on possible candidates-

(alphabetically)

John Becker, Vermont
Rashon Burno, Northern Illinois
Mark Byington, James Madison
Bryce Drew, Grand Canyon
Justin Gainey, Tennessee Assistant
John Schertz, Indiana State
Rob Senderoff, Kent State
Will Wade, McNeese State
Brian Wardle, Bradley Assistant

I saw McNeese State was down big in the 2nd half but just flipped back to see them win by 1. Nice comeback on the road. For a second thought I mushed Wade.

Wade would turn DePaul around rapidly, the good news is he'd only be at DePaul until the SEC comes calling again. Don't know if DePaul could afford him.

The staff already has a very strong idea who are the transfers coming in next year.
In this day and age we now have to also recruit portal players. Not sure the protocol, but when you say identified, do you mean kids already declared for the portal? Is SJU allowed to speak with kids who have not yet declared for the portal? Just trying to understand how that all works?

Its all backchanneling led by the staff (including Redmen.com's favorite son) and intermediaries. You can't officially contact until someone enters the portal but its like legalized job searching now. People look all the time.

I will continue to state I was all for one free transfer but its off the rails right now. And I miss the days of continuity where players played for a few years. Maybe we're just in a weird time as SJU and need to stabilize a bit before we become less reliant on transfers.

I agree, except I go back and forth on allowing another transfer of the coach who recruited him leaves.

The problem has been exacerbated by the NIL. A sophomore or junior transfer who has proven to be a very good D1 player at a lower conference and translates into an instant contributor is going to get good money.

I think there will be some type of NIL cap down the road. It hopefully teaches kids that “salary pools” exist in the real world. Even if they go professional.

Definitely a Fan of the 1-time free transfer w/out sitting. They are 18yr old kids when they commit, and should be allowed to transfer w/out penalty for any reason. Agree on the point as well if a Coach leaves, player should be allowed to transfer again w/out penalty.

Issue with a potential Cap... we'll just be in the same situation pre-NIL... where we know kids got "A bag"
