Around the Big East

Isn’t DePaul building new facilities and what not? They seem committed to building a program, just even more incompetent than we ever were.

Dayton would be great regardless. It’ll always be a good game on the schedule, phenomenal fan base, and a program waiting to break out.

They were the team that lost out the most due to Covid. Easily could’ve made a final four run

The problem with forcing DePaul out of the Big East is that Val would look like a complete fool if DePaul finally made a decent hire and they became even somewhat decent. Imagine the egg on the face of the league and the lost money if DePaul became good enough to make the tournament 2 times in 5 years, which is really not completely unfathomable.

When the Big 10 added Rutgers they were nothing better than average in football and terrible at basketball. Since then their football has only become worse and their basketball program, once considered one of the toughest places to win in the entire country has 2 of the top 3 high school recruits committed to them for next season.

Obviously there are deep issues at DePaul but like everybody else they are one decent hire away from adding value to the league.
I have usually been on the side of keeping DePaul because SJU did not do much to benefit the conference over the last 25 years.

But I am changing my opinion because DePaul’s infrastructure is so deeply damaged to its roots, I do not see how it will change.

Rutgers is a tough comparison because they are a state school and this recruiting boon could be just a one off. What happens when those kids move on? I doubt they come close to it again.

The BIG 10 could financially afford carry Rutgers. The Big East only has money to cover DePaul for so long.

I know Rutgers is a favorite whipping boy here but comparisons to them and DePaul really make no sense. RU has been competitive or better in virtually all sports except for football, which obviously is THE big one, but even in football they are beginning to trend up, emphasis on beginning.
Having said that, DePaul is going nowhere because of the market they are in, the on the money reasons in MugConstanza’s post in this thread, and finally, it would be a horrible PR visual for the conference. Just not going to happen.

I realize that, just in a pissy mood and venting when I posted that

I don't mind DePaul having an atrocious year like this (or most) as long as they continue that during BE play, which they have been.

Just for reference, Villanova actually gained a spot in the NET despite playing DePaul at home last night, from #33 to #32. Yeah they won by 25, but are now 2-0 against them and and were not at all negatively affected by DePaul this year. It's still possible DePaul can upset Nova in the BET but that's pretty unlikely.

DePaul will hire a new coach in a few months, and with NIL they can turn things around quickly. For now it's a good thing that they continue to get blown out, we want them to keep losing (especially by double digits) the rest of the way.

Closing out half Posh of Butler w 10 points, Dylan 12 for Hall w SH shooting well leading 45-37 Butler away

Holloway really get everything out of his guys
We’re more talented than Seton Hall. Soriano should have a field day. This may be the one Big East game where I’m not upset about Ledlum driving into the lane. But if we’re lackadaisical, we can definitely lose

To me only gimme is DePaul, even GT at home could grab a few wins.

Both teams getting wide open looks, neither digging in deep on defense.
