Around the Big East

Here's a pat on the back for Danny Hurley taking over the role that Jimmy Boeheim had during the early heyday of the Big East, trash talking how much better the BE is than everyone else.

Just like Boeheim if Hurly goes to another conference eventually he'll turncoat on the BE.

Boeheim as an ESPN analyst for college BB; sure he has the knowledge but not the charisma, oi vey.

Boeheim and Calhoun were very vocal in not wanting to leave the BE but their voices, despite being the hightest paid employees at their respective institutions, meant nothing to the bookkeepers. Once they got into their new conferences they were required to tow the party line.

Then they should have both resigned and become volunteer assistants on the SJU staff.

realistic expectations for St. John’s?

“To win an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2000. Fans of this program seem to have delusions of grandeur on an annual basis, but this time it’s warranted. With Rick Pitino on the sidelines and a deep roster anchored by veteran big man Joel Soriano (15.2 points, 11.9 rebounds) and Penn transfer Jordan Dingle (23.4 points), St. John’s has the requisites to become a national story. It’s been over 23 years since the Red Storm have advanced in March Madness, but this season it’s within reach.”

Big East scrimmage results I've found:
St. John's beat Rutgers by 11 in 2OT (89-78)
Villanova beat Penn State by an unknown margin

Villanova will play Duke
Marquette played Missouri but the result is unknown
Marquette will play Michigan on October 28
Creighton beat Iowa State by 3 (?-?)
Xavier lost to Notre Dame by 7 (84-91)

Xavier will play Kent State this weekend
DePaul will play Rutgers this weekend
Providence beat St. Joe's by 3 (77-74)
Providence will play East Carolina
UConn played Virginia but the result is unknown
Georgetown beat Wake Forest by 4 (81-77)
Georgetown lost to Pittsburgh by 14 (64-78)

Butler and Seton Hall are not playing (unless they're super secret)

Overall: 5-2 (4-2 vs. Power 5 & 1-0 vs A10).

Obviously these results don't mean much, but if the conference comes close to this winning percentage during the season then it'll be a big year for the Big East.

My friend who is a Seton Hall fan told me they lost to Boston College in a "secret" scrimmage.

Interesting, can't find anything about that on Twitter. Either those teams did an excellent job keeping this game a secret, or those fan bases are becoming more apathetic.

Vin Parise and Shaheen Holloway had a funny exchange about that during media day. Sha’s response to Vin was “what scrimmage?”
Yes, my friend sent me that clip. He's not sure why it is being kept under wraps but he said even his Hall "insiders" are being told to keep it quiet. Super odd.
