Around the Big East

I personally like Creighton to finish first in BE regular season unless any serious injuries, they have a lot of pieces & seem optimistic about their new PG

Around late 2019 the Big East was in discussions with the Pac 12 about a challenge, though it would've been more limited I think to half the conference teams. From what I read UCLA and USC were the reason it didn't happen. Now that they're in the Big Ten I'm not surprised about this impasse.

Another reason why scheduling Duke and Alabama is so huge. Sucks for the conference if this isn't finalized, but St. John's won't have any issues scheduling with Pitino here.

With 40 teams or whatever the Big “Ten?” has now I’m not sure how they play any OOC games. It is what it is and I’m just happy SJU doesn’t play in a bloated conference like that anymore.

To look at it from the bright side, now we don't have to worry about playing Nebraska or minnesota. Can replace that hopefully with another marque Garden game (Gonzaga? MSU? dare I say, Cuse?). With pitino at least, I don't think this is necessarily bad for SJU short term, though it is certainly not good for the conference.

You had me until Syracuse. Screw them. We should not save them by scheduling a game at the Garden.

Syracuse left because they had a football program and that meant they were too fancy for the BE. Well now neither their football or basketball program are fancy. Syracuse is now just ordinary.

The conference can take a step back and be selective. There is no room for an average program that needs the BE much more than the BE needs them.

Also forgotten is Syracuse originally was playing SJU OOC and then stopped as soon as SJU won a few games. And that was clearly at a time where a Syracuse game was beneficial to SJU. Now SJU can scheduled Alabama and Duke with a phone call. SJU will do what they want but I wouldn’t even answer a phone call from the Syracuse AD. Totally don’t need them now.
