Around the Big East

I didn’t want UCONN back in the Big East and I am on record of saying so and why
On this Board. It was a temporary solution to a problem that did not exists. The Big East did not need UCONN but UCONN did need the Big East.

What is happening is just what was predicted and the $30M exit fee should have been $50M for the first 5 years and $30M the next 2-3 years.

UCONN was not a fit for the new Big East and should have never been admitted. The quicker they are out the better otherwise this situation is just going to continue to hang over the conference’s head.

UCONN, please do pass go to whatever conference and Big East do collect your $30M.
100 percent!

Many UConn fans are against this move. They're basketball diehards and know they're bread and butter is in the BE.

But netting $33.5M just for having them swing by for a few years is pretty sweet.
I disagree about UConn fans being diehards.

They are front running fans. UConn was mediocre in the AAC, and played in front of far from sellout crowds.

They were nowhere near being a final four program during that time. I would go as far as to say the Big East did more for Uconn even more than the other way around.

Let UConn burn in the heat of 1,000 suns.

They will, with their fans having to travel to Texas, Oklahoma and the like to follow their team, with NO local rivalries.

I’ll add, I don’t know what the casual UConn fan cares at all about the athletic department making more money. It’s not like the fans get a salary from it. It means nothing to them at all. What WILL mean something is when you’re the conference’s northeast bitch, only for entrance to a market. The fans will lose ALL their local rivalries. Makes no sense for a fan of theirs to lobby for this move.

Please let this be true! I will help UCONN pack. Of course they used the Big East, who happily let them for some money. And not that much, by the way, as they came back in the middle of a FOX contract, and that exit fee divided by ten members is nothing to get excited about.

But who cares? The key is that they go, and that SJU never, ever, schedules them again, and the good thing is I'm sure they won't want to play us peasants either. And then I will never have to worry about being puked on, among other fun things, by their cretin fans. Never have to see them again at a Big East Tournament! Oh, please let this be true!

Since last season ended it has just been good news, followed by good news. This would be fantastic news. Let's go Big 12 - you know a good deal when you see one.

Close on this.

I don't care about UCONN. I care about the new Big East. Hopefully all of our other schools are committed to staying. I also hope the Big East doesn't rush in to grab another school unless there is a real business reason. Unfortunately the two schools that would fit best are Gonzaga and St. Mary's which are in California. I have seen a lot about Dayton and St. Louis on this board which really don't excite me unless they were replacing DePaul. Time will tell.

Why not add all four? Maybe add a few A10 teams into the mix, etc. Create a super conference of our own...

Big 12 aspires to be the premier basketball conference in America and would be more than glad to add Gonzaga and St. Mary's as a traveling buddy.

We should add Gonzaga, St Mary’s, Dayton and VCU.

That's the idea. Big East should not be complacent here. This is an amazing opportunity to solidify itself as a top three conference for the unforeseeable future. They should pounce on this opportunity.
I don’t think it’s at all a coincidence that the B12 and BE, the teams with true round Robin schedule are seeing success. More teams, even if quality ones, doesn’t always mean better.

When uconn goes, add gonzaga and keep the RR sched, or move conference schedule to 22 games and add the best 2.

I think Dayton will add to the quality of the league, they’ll get even better as a Big East team, and having one of the most dedicated fan bases in the sport will be a lot of fun.

If Gonzaga is gone to the Big 12, and UConn leaving is inevitable, I’m not really sure if another school makes a lot of sense. I guess VCU?

Lot of animosity toward UCONN. They are doing what they think is best for them and many want to scorch them on the way out. Is it really any of our business?

UCONN was a nice payday at the Garden and helped elevate the women’s program.

Some talk about trying to beef up our OOC schedule with name schools but UCONN would fill the Garden. Business decision and another solid payday.
