Around the Big East 19/20

McKnight was their point guard and a very good one averaging 5.4 assists per game. Three assists per game from your shooting guard and the guy you count on for scoring is actually pretty good. I watched a lot of their games and he generally was more than willing to make the right pass to Mamu, Gill or whoever else was open. He is the kind of guy I want on my team w/o question.

If you are referring to Powell he won the Jerry West award for SHOOTING guard.

Fanta on Martin

Dan Hurley just picked up a significant transfer for @UConnMBB. Rhode Island sophomore Tyrese Martin is heading to the Huskies. A really tough match-up to defend at 6-foot-6, and a strong rebounder. He averaged 12.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this past season. #UConnYes[/quote]

This was my favorite tweet by Andrew Slater on his prediction on Martin from yesterday:

I don't think he realized it but Myles Powell just committed an NCAA recruiting violation. Not sure what Fanta is doing but he should have edited it out. No one directly associated with a program is allowed to comment publicly on a prospective UNSIGNED recruit/transfer. For obvious reasons.

Alex O'Connell just committed to Creighton. Averaged 5.2 PPG this past season at Duke.

UConn has quite a few very good wings. Will be interesting to see what they can do this coming season. Their fans seem to be underestimating the Big East and I think they’re in for a bit of a rude awakening coming from the AAC where they haven’t even finished higher than 5th in recent years. The Big East is gonna be a different grind. They do have some nice pieces though. Looking forward to Hurley meltdowns.

Do you want him to be a walk on? Or do you propose that we yank a scholarship from one of our 13 currently filled slots?

Well technically we have an open ship in many ways right now.
And I hope it doesnt drag so long that when a decision is made and our leading scorer from last year leaves that the pickings aren't slim.
Definitely a double edged sword.

Agree, would like to get this settled sooner rather than later.

If he does opt to leave, there's no real replacing him with what's out there. I'd rather take a shot at another big guy and play Cole at SF if it happens soon. I think he drags it out until the last minute, though. Top overseas options are looking a little scary right now.

If that’s the case, we should go out and land a grad transfer ASAP. Can’t be waiting on our refining leading scorer forever.

I'd want a grad transfer to have heady experience on the squad and again just a 1 year investment. While LJ had a very much up and down year he still was the most sure thing offensively on the team.

Put me in the camp that thinks we should absolutely wait for LJ to make his decision. And who are we kidding thinking it will be a quick one? Nba draft stuff has no timetable at this point. We’ve got 12 guys for next year as is, LJ is the cherry on top.

In recent years players like LJ could announce for the draft, work out for NBA teams and get feedback on where they would probably be drafted and what areas of their game needed improvement. If they returned to school they could spend the next year concentrating on those areas.
With the corona virus running rampant and a June 3 date when players have to make a decision will there be any opportunity for these workouts?
