He wasn't a good enough shooter for someone who was basically a "catch-and-shoot" player. He probably dribbled the ball about 10 times and made one or two moves to the basket in two years. If he shot the ball at a 40% clip or higher as a standstill shooter, then he would've been valuable for this team.
I'll give him more props on the defensive end as he battled and banged, and at times, held his own, with bigger foes last season.
.
True , to an extent but , Trimble was a off the Bench player in his time here , not a Starter . As NC Johnnie said , he shot about 32 percent over 2 years taking around 150 shots . Currently , only the top 50 3 point shooters in all of Div 1 basketball shoot 40 percent on 3 ‘s . On our current team Figgy shoots 36 percent and Heron 35 percent on 3’s . No one else breaks 30 percent . Dunn shoots 21 percent but , we know he’s in there for other things , not his shooting ! The point was Trimble as a sub , a role he played for us and would continue to play , would have made some contribution shooting , even at 32 percent . It’s a what if comment , nothing more . BTW, only Howard on Marquette and Ballock on Creighton crack the top 50 among BE players . Syracuse has 2 Players , Buddy Boeheim and Elkins , I think his name is , in the top 50 of 3 point shooters . A more compelling point is that Recruiting 3 point shooters has to be a major target for Anderson moving forward and not just 1 player but, as many as you can get . Kids who have shooting touch , in addition to the other skills , are a premium .
Figueroa, Heron and Dunn (as you noted with Dunn) all bring far more to the table than Trimble. A standstill, designated, or "catch-and-shoot" shooters has to be able shot better than 32% from deep. If strictly shooting the ball is your specified role in an offense, then those numbers needed to be raised. Maybe those numbers would've been higher had he returned. I don't know. None of have an idea.
I liked what Trimble gave us when he was throwing his body around and fighting low post players a season ago. I also would like to wish him the best at Akron. But I had no problem with him moving on, as I feel many on our current team brings more to the table and/or have a better upside than him.
