Around the Big East 19/20
seems like G'town got away with so many no calls and very favorable officiating and UNCG just hung tough even when their two best players got brutalized and knocked out of the game.
Make sense, Paul. Ewing is a Thompson disciple who preached they can’t call them all. Thompson would also do his fair share of lobbying (or is it whining) to get his share of calls.

Akinjo and MacClung are really fun to watch when they're playing well but also extremely inconsistent. I have no idea why Ewing isn't playing Josh LeBlanc more. He was their energy guy last season and I remember what a pain in the ass he was when we played him. Teams breath a sigh of relief when he comes out of the game. It has to be an attitude/disciplinary thing because they look much better when he's out there. I was just saying that what Josh Roberts is doing for us so far this year reminds me a bit of what LeBlanc was giving the Hoyas last season.

It looks like the Hoyas are trying to funnel the offense through Yurtseven and Akinjo (in that order). Problem is Yurtseven, as skillful as he is as a player, is also soft. So you don't know what you'll get from him game-to-game. He's also prone to foul trouble.

Akinjo has been out of control and erratic in the early going of this season. Seems like he's playing or auditioning for the "Association."

Based on my observations from last season and the early going of this season. McClung doesn't give you much of anything if he isn't scoring (ie, not much facilitating, no rebounding, and below-average defense). If he gets going per getting buckets then he's an asset for his team and a problem for the opposition. He's a streaky player and always a potential highlight reel. But there's really no other truly redeeming qualities to his game outside of scoring (when he gets it going).

I do agree re: Josh Leblanc. He's their heart and soul. Something must be still going on (as Leblanc missed their opening game), as he hasn't been getting quality minutes since his return. My thing is don't jerk him around with minimal minutes. Either suspend him or release him of his scholarship. If Ewing continues this early season stunt then I see a team that'll struggle or be a rollercoaster.

That's a great observation about McClung. He's a streaky scorer who doesn't add much else. If he's not hot, he's just out there running around.

Also about Le Blanc...it's more than a couple of games now. Either something bigger went down that the public isn't aware of or Ewing is playing with fire. Losing LeBlanc to transfer could haunt him. Georgetown reminds me a little of recent St John's teams in that they're talented but not very disciplined. Seem to be playing up or down to the competition each night.

All good points on Georgetown. I see them as a collection of parts, but not a whole. Ewing is not putting pieces together. Akinjo is talented but loves to dribble and play iso. We can be successful if we press him relentlessly this year. Clearly LeBlanc is in doghouse. Ewing's going to get a ton of heat if his team puts up another average year.

The Florida game is actually at Barclays Center, FWIW.

Marquette getting outclassed by Maryland 42 - 21 at the half. Terps shutting Howard down.

5 assists vs 11 TOs and 16 3’s (with only 4 makes) vs. 14 2’s not a recipe for success to say the least. Bailey the only productive player for Marquette in the half.

It’s the Ponds/Howard/Powell problem that the Big East seems to get in trouble with a lot. One star scorer with the rest unable to score much at all. Defenses key on that and it’s lights out.

Frankly I like the way Anderson is building SJU better because we have been down that one man team too many times before. There will come a time when Anderson will have 5 good starters as well as 5+ talented bench players and SJU fans will be thankful for the way this thing is getting built.

Maryland is just manhandling Marquette. Much tougher, killing on the boards, making smart plays. Maryland not a one-man band.

Actually, this guy Bailey, who I've never heard of, has 16 of Marquette's 24 points, so someone else has stepped up. Maryland is just playing super great.
Bailey was a 4*, top 100 recruit. Only a soph.
Thurl Bailey’s son

Well more guys stepping up which I like to see. They can’t be just Howard.

Bailey had some nice moments for Marquette at the end of last year. It was clear he was going to be a much bigger contributor over time.

MCN I believe that time is coming sooner than later. 3 weeks ago I was very concerned for next season but with each passing game I believe we can be better next season than this one. I see Rasheem stepping into Herons shoes and do not foresee a huge droppoff. I am assuming LJ leaves but Cole will step into his shoes. Posh will be an upgrade over Rutherford and that will be key. Moore and Wusu will add depth at the 2,3 and 4. Roberts, Champagnie and hopefully Steere will provide us with 3 strong interior players ,one who boards and blocks shots very well, one who scores and boards well and a third who was the highest ranking recruit hopefully can do everything. Earlington and Caraher add two solid bench players and Spears is another 5 fouls inside who hopefully will improve. I truly like our first 11 players for next season. If the players we have continue to improve and CMA keeps bringing in improved talent we will get there sooner than later.

SHU by no means a one man team. who do we have that can lock down Howard or Powell or anyone?

Who does? They average about 28 and 24 respectively so not many teams are locking them down. You make it as tough as possible, like Maryland did to Howard today, and hope they have an off day.
