Around the Big East 18/19

Providence at the line with 13secs in OT, now up by 3, 86-83.
G*Town with ball and ~10 seconds left.
Let’s go Friars!
Can never root for G*Town!

OMG!
Hoyas tied it!
Providence with ball and about 3 seconds left.

Lol. What a Conference, indeed!

IMO, Cooley with some questionable coaching at the end of regulation and the first OT. Remind you, I think Cooley is a good coach.

Great game!! Providence should have fouled. Every game is war in this conference. 13-5 will win the conference this season

He's done a great job at Providence, but in game strategy does not appear to be his strong suit.

Terrible possession by Providence, no movement, stagnant passing, and an air ball.
Hoyas about to win I bet. 33 secs left.

I lean towards the don’t foul when you’re up 3 side of the debate but regardless of where you stand, how bout some defense? Wow

Providence lack of ability to competently shoot the 3-ball may be their undoing. But they still would've likely won today's game, if they'd fouled at the end of regulation.

Agree with Dinkins at the end of regulation. Stay solidly between your man and the basket and as soon as the player, in this instance McClung puts the ball on the floor, foul as it bounces back up from the floor.

By the way, some posters like to say stupid, highly-hyperbolic crap about our fan base being the "worst fans in all of sports" and whatnot (which I cringe when it's spouted on our forums).... A handful of Friar fans are calling for Cooley's head after today's game.

As, I tell people who seem naive or ignorant to what goes on in today's society; I'll tell those fans of ours who think we have the "worst fans...." Get out more!

Here’s probably an unpopular/unfeasible idea: every time a 3 point shooter is “fouled”,
go review it. If it wasn’t a foul, take it away, if the offensive player was clearly trying to bait a whistle/kick their legs out, 1-1 ft for the other team. Myles Powell and everguard Wojo has had at Marquette make me want to vomit doing this routinely. Ponds isn’t immune to it but not as extravagant IMO.

We’ve had some heartbreaking losses so far this year but that one for providence, especially when you are already 0-2 in conference, has to sting. Had the game twice. If you don’t foul up 3 at the end of regulation and they hit a big shot, shouldn’t you change the strategy in the same scenario in OT? guess Cooley decided to stick to his guns.

That one has to hurt. 0-3 in conference now. Reminds me of when we were 0-4 in conference a couple years ago and had a game won against providence until Max Hooper got stripped on an inbounds and we blew the game

Here’s my thing and I’m not saying you’re wrong. My view is this. You’re up 3 with under five second left. You don’t foul and the worst case is you lose in overtime. You do foul and the worst case is you lose in regulation.

That was very similar to my thinking. My thought was fouling him once he crossed midcourt. But Cooley was probably assuming they wouldn't get a good look. Basically semantics, as we're saying practically the same thing.

I can't stand the whipping-out of the leg and flailing of players to persuade a whistle. Troy Bell was one of the first to start doing it nearly two decades ago.

Notre damn had a player maybe 10-15 years ago, a white shooter that I can’t remmeber which one. Got so many 3pt foul calls it was insane. I think his name was Falls? Which was pretty ironic if I’m remembering correctly.
