Around the Big East 18/19

Considering how much talent and experience they lost it's pretty impressive what the Pirates have been able to do so far. I thought they were underrated before the season but I didn't expect them to be this good. Future of the Big East looks great, all 10 teams are recruiting at a pretty high level for next year and beyond.
A bonehead play by Creighton and a 3 after the buzzer gets counted. You can't jump and catch the ball, land and then shoot, all within .8 seconds. Leading to this. Sometimes, I just think SJU is just cursed Awful calls cost us games. Our comp for the NCAA win in impossible situations, with referee help. I don't know what to expect next.
Agree on another ridiculous call by BE refs; there is no way that shot should have counted regardless of when the buzzer went off. As you pointed out, physically impossible to do what Hauser did in .8 seconds. But like us, Creighton gave the refs the opportunity to screw up. Not that they care, but the BE losing credibility if they had any to start with. Common sense going the way of the dinosaur.

Watched most of the Butler Hall game - Butler hung tough but could never get over the hump. Powell as usual came up big when it counted.
Would like to see us take the ball to the hoop aggressively when we play Butler next weekend. They don't really have any rim protectors and we'll have a big edge in quickness.

saw the play. The jump has no impact on the clock starting. The clock starts on the touch. According to rule you can catch and shoot with .8 on the clock.

You can catch and shoot but it was a jumping catch, he had to land, and go back up and release the ball. He didn’t get it off in time.

Providence with close to a must win road game tomorrow at Georgetown. Don't want to go 0-3 with two home losses. PC may be in for a tough stretch with Reeves out indefinitely. Cooley will find a way to make them very competitive though. Both our games against them are in February by which time I expect them to be tough.

And, BPI only gives the Friars a 38.3% chance of victory tomorrow. After hosting Seton Hall on Tuesday, they play six of their following eight games on the road. That can really wear on a team.

They'll probably be better when Reeves comes back (which is not good for us, obviously), but by the time that happens, they may be too far back to be a factor in the Big East race.

That won't stop them. If they're out of it by the time they plat us Cooley will be preaching playing spoiler and getting ready for revenge in the BE tourny.

So you think a player can jump, catch the ball at the peak of his jump, at which point the clock starts, come down, jump again, and release the ball at the peak of his jump in .8 seconds? Sorry, not in this universe. He can barely land from the initial jump in .8 seconds.

If you believe in the concept white men can't jump than it is probably possible. :) Personally on the replay it was so close I have no problem staying with the call on the court (and rewarding a great shot).

Me too. Providence is going to get better once Reeves comes back, so the further they can get buried in the standings before his return, the better.
