Around the Big East 18/19

Again not Big East but Duke beat Mcgill badly this afternoon 103-58 to wrap up their three game Canadian tour. McGill lost all 5 games it played this month against NCAA schools so it was not great competition for Duke. Again, right now RJ and Zion are outstanding and the rest of the team is very mediocre. Bolden who was a MCAA did nothing against Canadian competition.
Depending upon how our newcomers integrate and how Reddish and Jones play for Duke after coming back from their injuries we may have a good game on February 2 Nd in Durham.

That Should be a great game. I don't know if we'll win but I think Simon, Clark, Figueroa and possibly Heron will match up very well against Duke's sensational Freshman wings. Simon will be one of the hardest guys RJ Barrett plays against all season.

Not BE, but;

Fred’s son G Trey Quartlebaum, 2019 guard, has committed to St. Francis of Brooklyn & Glenn Braica.

Govan;
Rivalry with St. John’s: “We don’t like them, they don't like us” (said with a smile!)

Nice article. I expect Govan to be Shamorie's toughest competition for BE POY.

I think Markus Howard might have something to say about that.

Understand that Howard is the obvious choice and also on highest rated team pre-season. However, I think Shamorie is the better player at same position and will show that in head-to-head competition. I just have a feeling Govan is going to have a breakout year and is going to dominate against most BE big men. Could be wrong, I often am.

Thanks for posting Paultzman - nice article. I've been high on Providence's prospects for this season for some time - this article confirms how competitive and deep their team will be. BE will not be as down as has been speculated. Sure hope MH can play; he would help with rebounding (among other areas) for sure.

Xavier has landed four-star big man Zach Freemantle. That's THREE 4-star 2019 recruits signed by Xavier, with a head coach on the job for less than 5 months.

We...can't...close.

Have any of the recruits we're targeting the hardest selected yet?

Travis Steele was basically the top recruiter for Xavier the last few years. He's been hands on in landing some of those great classes in recent years for Xavier, so this is really not that surprising. In my opinion , the big east will be a lot better than people think, I think the Big east gets at least 5 teams in the dance this year with St. Johns being one of them.

Local kid from N.J. Bergen Catholic we should have looked at imo. Not a stud, but has good fundamentals and developing

Marquette transfer Haanif Cheatham granted hardship waiver, and is immediately eligible at Florida Gulf Coast. Will Heron be far behind?

We should have been scouring the country for a kid like this for this season, especially if there are potentially four stud guards to surround him with.

Wow...Hardship? Thought he bailed due to getting recruited over.

Cheatham announced his transfer after playing only 5 games last year as a junior so was going to be eligible to play in December after first semester w/o any hardship exemption. I wasn't aware he was applying for hardship exemption although article I found from last year said he was leaving for personal reasons and only option was to play close to home.

Great to see, especially this early.

At this point I'd be pretty surprised if Heron is not eligible.
