Around the Big East 18/19

[quote="MJDinkins" post=292133]Josh Roberts, St. John’s
PF | 6-foot-9 | 210 lbs | No. 272 overall
On the surface, St. John’s has an awesome roster heading into 2018-19. There are a few tremendous building blocks for a successful campaign on the team, including superstar Shamorie Ponds and the potential addition of another star guard in Mustapha Heron. However, the issues with the roster arise when looking further down the depth chart. After the top four or five guys on the team, there are a lot of question marks surrounding unproven players, especially in the frontcourt.

While this might be seen as a weakness of the team, it is also possible to look at it as a source of potential for a star to arise. Even though it is unlikely that he is a starter during this freshman campaign, incoming recruit Josh Roberts could emerge as an excellent depth option for head coach Chris Mullin. At 6-foot-9, he will provide plenty of size for the team and can function as either a power forward or a center.

As a player, Roberts is at his best when hovering around the point. He is able to use his size and athleticism to sky for rebounds on either end of the court and either perform an outlet pass or finish off second-chance opportunities. In addition, he projects as a solid shot-blocker at the college level. Roberts may not be a starter right away but minutes are there for the taking as a reserve big man. Could Roberts be the guy to swoop in and snag them?

Typos are alive. Otherwise, it may prove out. I recall a couple highlights with Roberts skying high and slamming it down. Let’s go Johnnies.

You guys may tongue and cheek about this but the fact is we have been the worst managed basketball program in the the Big East. This is unacceptable in New York City, the headquarters of the conference.

I occasionally peruse other conference foes forums, and many of 'em state we're the "worst managed basketball program" in the conference.

A lot of 'em just view DePaul as.... well, DePaul.

What does location have to do with anything except your standards?

Standards? Do you disagree with wanting a level of quality and achievement for our program or are you happy making excuses year after year for not meeting goals related to success?
Location? You jest Shirley? NYC is the capital of the world! Everything is magnified here! For decades the Big East conference has made NYC and Madison Square Garden its biggest claim to legitimacy and uniqueness in college basketball. So much so that the ACC and Big Ten are trying to claim the territory.
Playing the Big East tourney in your home town and perennially finishing in the cellar is an embarrassment to anyone associated with the school.
Hope this clarifies my statement.;)

What I'm not happy with is the incessant whining by many on this board, yourself included. I'm not accepting your assessment of the situation or your feeling that NYC holds us to a different standard. So we beg to differ. You're entitled to your opinion and so am I. Let's leave it at that.

On a different note; Bayern smoked Frankfurt yesterday to win the German Supercup and the Bundesliga season starts in a week from Friday, as Die Rotten start their inevitable march to another title.:)

I watched the match as well and at 5-0 I felt so bad for Frankfurt that I dumped the package of frankfurters I had in the trash compactor.:cheer:

72 is right of course...there will always be those who demand a quality program and product and those who would accept anything no matter how bad. The second we start demanding a legit product, others start saying to get a life and start to tell us how it's just a game or how we should go root for another program. Why is it so absurd to ask to be Providence College or Seton Hall? Wasn't long ago we were above them clearly. No one's asking to be UNC. When the program can't even jump over the shortest hurdle, don't blame the hurdle.
