Around the Big East 18/19

To me, it seems like every team except us has at least 1 or 2 serviceable big men consistently. I am hoping that this coaching staff reverses that trend. IMHO, it is a matter of the recruiting philosophy of the last few staffs that led to this (i.e., recruiting multi-positional athletes as opposed to basketball players at specific positions).

Yeah I like the more traditional
Model that includes post players. We do have Steere here who is a big man and likely going to be a bit better than what we’ve had most recently. Sears is a nice sized PF as well who seems to do the dirty work inside. Adding a ton least one more legit big for next season would be a big help though.

Sources: The Big East is expected to play early season conference games in November or December when the league goes to 20 games during the 20-21 season.

I must be having a senior moment or a huge brain fart.

If the league stays at 10 teams, the 18 game league schedule is perfect - home and home versus every team in the league. What is the rationale for moving to a 20 game league schedule?

I'm fine with this, as long as they do what the Big 10 does, and make sure that every team has one home game, and one road game, on their December conference slate. That's the most fair way to do it, IMO.

I'm sure this is FOX pulling the strings here. It gives them a much better slate of December games, and with no college football in that month (FOX only has 1 or 2 bowl games), this will help boost their programming.

That being said, I understand the problems people have with this. Teams usually are much different in December, then they are at the end of a season. Those game results could change your ranking (for better or worse) as the season goes on. Some teams that are ranked in December fade into oblivion by the end of February, so what seemed like a good win back then, may not look great down the line. Other teams may struggle early, but get it right come the New Year, yet they are staring at a 2-game conference hole that they have to dig out of (this could especially be true with our teams, since Anderson has said that it takes awhile for the press to really develop).

UConn joins next year, so league needs 2 extra games to keep a full round robin format.

UConn is baaaack in 20/21. Senior moment or huge brain fart forgiven as the latter happens to me from time to time (I refuse to say senior moment, not going there yet).

Told Big East is "likely" going to begin playing conference games earlier next year, as @JonRothstein reported. But in December, not November, source said. League wants to continue with games twice a week.

Seton Hall is raising the Rock's upper-deck curtain for Michigan State, Maryland, St. John's and Villanova. Interest in this team is approaching early 1990s levels.

Maryland and MSU are nice OOC games for them

Willard did a good job scheduling this year accounting for the team he has coming back. He has won 1 NCAA game in 9 years, so my guess is he is thinking he parlays Myles Powell mania into a few tourney wins and a bigger paycheck at a Power 5 program.

Interesting they are raising the curtains for our game, looking at where we are projected to be based on the other 3 teams.

Nova will scrimmage North Carolina on 10/27

Indiana v Marquette on 10/20

Providence v Purdue 10/27

Def Pen Sports continues its 2019-20 NCAA preview series this week with a focus on the Big East. As a conference, the Big East underachieved in the NCAA Tournament and looks to make an improvement in the 2019-2020 campaign. There is some serious upperclassmen star power this year in the Big East which features some the strongest guard play of any league.

Let’s take a look at our 2019 Top 10 Big East players.
