Around the Big East 18/19

Okie-dokie Wind.

Btw - I’d like to apologize for what I said about Coach Jackson in my previous post. He is a good coach but thank God the A.D. convinced them there was no way to sell him over Anderson. He has many more contacts, more experienced, won at a good clip in major conferences, has had major success in the NCAA’s and was the BEST basketball coach available at the time to coach SJU. With the staff he has hired & the way he plays the game. He was the right choice for this job and thank God Cragg convinced the ”dream team”(lol) of that. Because if we had Jones or Hewitt it was going to be a long 7-10 years of mediocrity. With Anderson and the right players this team can be legit. I’m going with the
latter. And if he pulls a rabbit out of his hat and gets a legit big man or another scorer to go along with Herron, Figueroa, Steere and Williams. We’re going to have a lot of HUGE games at home down the stretch.

Go Redmen!!

Medical issues have ended the athletic career of redshirt sophomore Ike Eke of Marquette

Butler lands the #103 recruit!

Big East is putting together an excellent 2020 class:

2020 Top 100 Rankings via 247 Composite:
#60 Xavier (Dwon Odom)
#74 Marquette (Justin Lewis)
#82 Georgetown (Terrance Williams)
#91 Xavier (C.J. Wilcher)

Also:
#103 Butler (Myles Tate)
#130 Butler (Chuck Harris)
#136 Seton Hall (Dimingus Stevens)

Nova and UConn aren't on the list yet, and only 36 out of the top 136 recruits have committed. Of those 36, 7 have committed to the Big East (19%, well above average for a P6 conference). Now let's hope we can land #99 Posh Alexander!

Posh missed all of last year with a broken arm. If he stays healthy senior year, expect that ranking to go up, even if he has just an ordinary season.

Let's get this done!

I wonder what salaries are like there. I'm shocked he didn't end up in Europe, but I'd love to be young and living in Japan.

Devin Ebanks is his teammate.

Japan is def a great place to be, but unless the team is underwriting his living expenses, the cost of living is very high. But I guess he'll work that all out.

Most of the foreign leagues provide room and board directly or through allowances, plus of course a per diem whle on the road.

PS NBA Draft Picks showing as playing in the JBL this season - Robert Sacre, JR Henderson (naturalized Japanese citizen who by my account is 43YO), Henry (formerly Bill) Walker, Ryan Kelly (whose mother is a HS classmate of my wife), Josh Harrelson, Jeff Ayres, Hilton Armstrong (the only first round pick in the league) and Nick Fazekas. Yeah, I'm bored.

Big East is obviously one tough league. Staff is putting in the time for sure to improve the roster and really need infusion of a Juco talent like Cole, Posh and some interior help this cycle while putting solid 2021 class together. We’ll see.

“The Big East has always been known for its toughness, from its heyday in the 1980s, or in recent years after its reconfiguration that saw Butler, Creighton and Xavier become members.

Recent commitments within the league only bolster that reputation.

Georgetown struck close to home with Terrance Williams and while he is a quality shot-maker with a great IQ for the game, toughness reverberates from what he does. He is a giant win in a number of ways.

Marquette has become known for its offensive firepower, which is why the commitment of Justin Lewis is so important. He is no slouch in the scoring department, but it is his blue-collared demeanor that should make him a Golden Eagles’ favorite from the start.

Butler already holds three commitments, but its most recent, Myles Tate, brings the greatest intensity to the floor. He can make shots, defend and facilitate, but should have his strengths accentuated further alongside Chuck Harris. Toughness is not a deficiency of Tate.

Xavier will enroll CJ Wilcher and Dwon Odom, while Seton Hall has a giant playmaker in tow with Jahari Long. Each brings passion and toughness to the floor, which should only make the league, as a whole, a tougher one.”

Sources: 2019 NBA G League rookie of the year Angel Delgado has signed a one-year, $4.3M deal with the Beijing Royal Fighters of the Chinese Basketball Association. Delgado was on a two-way deal with the Clippers last season.

Butler continues to replenish that program regardless of the head coach or what other teams are doing, getting to see them up close is a real treat, as they continue to look like an old school college basketball program in a very different student athlete culture. I just hope that with Coach Anderson's intensity, we no longer phone in the games at Hinkle, it was embarrassing to watch.

Wow. Nice pay day for an outstanding former Big East player. Good for him!

....guess we weren't the only team that couldn't box him out.

Tate sort of reminds me of Kamar Baldwin. That's what came to mind when I heard he had committed to Butler. Tate is part of a three-peat program who looks geared to win four consecutive state championship in South Carolina's 5-A Region.

I've had the chance to watch Tate on three times (once his sophomore season and twice last season). He was also the Player of the Year in 5-A during his sophomore season. Tate's teammate, PJ Hall (a top 70 recruit) has narrowed down his list to Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Tennessee.

Butler got themselves a solid player in Tate.

Per Jake Weingarten;

Xavier has landed four-star senior Colby Jones over the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Stanford, Iowa State, others.

Xavier killing it on recruiting 2020 trail with Jones, 4-star point guard Dwon Odom and 4-star wing C.J. Wilcher in the fold.
