Around the Big East 18/19

St. John's only school w/ 2 in that top 10. Hmmmmm

And I see that Owens, Simon and yes PONDS all made NBA rosters (I believe). There was definitely some talent here...

Wow. UConn is going to be coming in loaded with good, young talent. They'll be tough. I'm not sold on Dan Hurley as a great coach but he's certainly bringing in the talent and that's a huge part of the job so I've gotta give it up for him.
I really hate how they come back into the Big East in a rebuild year for us. Hope we have enough talent to compete.

Oh I'm telling you right now, we straight up better compete with uconn, or it will be a damn smack. Imagine the very first year that pos school is back, they have fun slapping us around.
Truth, I don't know about anyone else here, but that would be a little bit to much for me to handle.

Mikey can't let that happen.

Vibes tell me that CMA will be up to competing with UCONN and the rest of the Big East in coming years. It'll be a process but I'm hopeful we'll 'get there'.
Had a feeling Hurley would and up killing it recruiting
I have said it 1000x.

I like MIke Anderson a lot. But again if they could re-do 4 years ago the mistake was not so much letting Lavin go it was going after Mullin first and not pursuing Danny.

When Hurley took over at UCONN, they were in a terrible place. He immediately focused on Top 150 talent and, yes, they will definitely be tough for us to deal with.

Ironic both Hurleys seems better recruiters than they are coaches, although Danny is the better 'coach' of the two and they both come with that Hurley-mystique and deep NY Metro roots.
Yes UCONN will be tough to deal with, but I'm very hopeful--given CMA's coach and character profile--that we'll be competitive with them in time.

In time isn't an acceptable amswer, we can't have them thinking it's gonna be like old times, coming back and kick our asses.
Especially uconn? No blanking way.

In no way does 'in time' = 'waiting forever'. Apparently the Staff is still recruiting its 2020 Class.
Let's at least wait that process is completed before we host a wake on the 2020 Season against UCONN, or any BE team, or the 2020-21 Season.
Plus, it's quite possible that our 2020 Class to date is 'under-rated'. I believe Posh is ranked #142 / 152 by Rivals / 247 Sports and that may be under-rated due to injuries last year; I think Cole is preseason Top 5 JUCO at least, and Moore may well blow up in JUCO this year, given his HS stats and his 'effiiciency' in sparse time last year.
So, let's wait until the process is done.
“Butler continues to add to its up cupboard of talent thanks to its most recent commitment on Wednesday evening. Four-star forward Scooby Johnson gave his verbal commitment to the Big East program which becomes the highest rated recruit to commit to Lavall Jordan.”

Problem is Jordan is a horrendous coach. His coaching was not impressed me. PG Baldwin masks a lot of deficiency from and X's and O's and game management standpoint. Jordan makes Lavin look like John Wooden

On the same day they landed a verbal commitment from Albany (NY) Academy wing Andre Jackson, Dan Hurley and the UConn staff went four deep in Canada for Javonte Brown-Ferguson, the 7-foot, 240-pound 16-year-old big man from Thornlea Secondary School in Ontario and the Under Armour Canada Elite AAU program.
Brown-Ferguson is currently in the Class of 2021, but is leaving heavily toward reclassifying to 2020.
With UConn poised to re-enter the Big East Conference in 2020, Hurley and his staff are key to land a big man, a piece they believe can make them a Top-15 or 20-type team.

The Big East is doing an amazing job.

2020 Top 200 Rankings via 247 Composite:
#50 Xavier (Dwon Odom)
#70 UConn (Andre Jackson)
#74 Marquette (Osasere Ighodaro)
#75 Creighton (Ryan Kalkbrenner)
#76 Marquette (Justin Lewis)
#83 Georgetown (Terrance Williams)
#92 Xavier (C.J. Wilcher)
#109 Butler (Myles Tate)
#131 Colby Jones (Xavier)
#137 Scooby Johnson (Butler)
#149 Butler (Chuck Harris)
#152 St. John's (Posh Alexander)
#187 Seton Hall (Dimingus Stevens)
#199 Seton Hall (Jahari Long)

Note: this is for high school athletes only. The JUCO list should release later, though it is often only a dozen or so players.

2020 Team Rankings via 247 Composite:
#6 Xavier
#11 Butler
#18 Marquette
#34 Seton Hall
#47 UConn
#48 Creighton
#50 Georgetown
#56 St. John's
#71 Providence

If the best ~50 teams get at large bids every year, then the Big East currently has 7 teams in that range, and 2 just outside it (St. John's and Providence). The 2 without recruits yet are our best team (Villanova) and our worst (DePaul).

Some of those scrimmages are pretty far from campus

Friar injuries;

Nate Watson has large brace on right knee.

PC’s junior center, perhaps the best low post player in the Big East, has a sprained MCL and is out “indefinitely,” according to Cooley. The problem is the big man isn’t the only Friar on the injured list. Point guard Luwane Pipkins was slowed by knee tendinitis over the summer and now he’s dealing with a hamstring that’s knocked him out of practice.

Those two players, the team’s big man and point guard, were seen as likely starters. Valuable senior center Kalif Young (abdominal pull) and promising freshman Greg Gantt (Achilles injury) are also out.

Recruiting;

The news with the 2020 Class is a bit worrisome. While some targets have dropped the Friars or chosen other schools, PC only owns one commitment (from Atlanta guard Alyn Breed) and may be fighting from behind in other battles.

PC got hit w/ early injuries last year too. Something to question if bad luck or approach.
