Misleading post. 4 of those kids came directly by them hiring two assistant coaches - and 4 of the best 5 of the lot. Several others are transfers or kids who would have been run out of here by their first or second year. Powell was a truly great find by Holloway and Hall staff has done a nice job of developing Nzei and did same with Sanogo.
The magic elixir is not recruiting only local players. It’s recruiting a balanced roster of talented kids, developing them and maintaining continuity.
By the way, when people suggest St. John's should focus on 3 and 4 star local kids........guess who has been doing that successfully for the past few years.......
Myles Powell (Trenton,NJ)
Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, CT)
Mike Nzei (Centereach, NY)
Anthony Nelson (Harlem, NY)
Taureen Thompson (New York, NY)
DeShawn Davis (Bronx, NY)
Derrick Gordon (Elizabeth, NJ)
Isiah Whitehead (Brooklyn,NY)
Kadeem Carrington (Brooklyn, NY)
Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, NY)
Angel Delgado (Bronx, NY)
Ismael Sanogo (Newark, NJ)

Whatever the reasons, the point is that while we make excuses, minimize how they got their players and complain about the legal hiring of Tiny, Seton Hall is busy out performing us ten fold. Time to tip the cap and start emulating what Providence, Xavier and Seton Hall are doing. To me, the biggest difference is that career basketball coaches are establishing a definitive culture and leading very well organized programs.
