Around the Big East 18/19

Basing my observation simply on the eyeball test, after watching all the SJU games and about five SHU games I have the impression SHU players seem to play with more intensity than SJU.
Maybe it's an underdog mentality but they seem to take each game more serious.
They play to their coach's personality, as do we. Enough said.
And to their coach's 'style' of play. Very astute observation, Delaware.
This is one of the most impressive jobs Wright has done IMO.

Seton Hall has much more talent than our fans give them credit for. Powell was their best player last year. McKnight is the best on-ball defender in the conference. Nzei has been there for 20 years.

Willard would have been fired here. Kudos for SH having patience with him.
And you would have wanted him fired here. If you are now comparing us to SHU then you should have had that mentality when Norm Roberts was here.

Willard first 5 years with no NCAA sanctions produced zero NCAA bids. There is now way you would have tolerated that at SJU under Norm Roberts or quite frankly anyone and In 8 years he has won a grand total of 1 NCAA Tourney game and zero regular season titles.

He has done a good job, just like Pikiel has done a good job at Rutgers. That doesn't mean every school has same expectations nor should they. Pikiel's record is awful but he is building and it is Rutgers' they aren't doing any better. Pat Chambers has been at Penn St for 7 years with no NCAA bids, are you saying SJU should have the same patience?

BTW-For the record when SHU hired Willard and SJU hired Lavin you referred to the Willard hire as a JV hire in 2010. I guess you got amnesia on those things as well.

Willard wasn’t a great hire. I still think that. Firing coaches is where I have a problem. Can I make that any clearer? Mullin wouldn’t have made my top 10 choices.

Please don’t compare anyone to the disaster that was Norm Roberts. Norm is in a class of his own when it comes to being awful. Willard enjoyed success at Iona prior to SH. He took them from 2-28 to 20 wins on three years. Norm lost 80% of his games at Queens College. There was no hope with Norm. None.
The hard truth is we can’t. We lead the country in firing coaches over the last 25 years. That’s disgusting.
Is that more disgusting than leading the country in awful coaching hires the last 25 years?
It will probably come down to the Februray 23rd game at MSG, to decide which of us finishes with a better conference record.

Other then that, you'd think Seton Hall would have the inside track schedule-wise, because they finish with back-to-back home, while we finish with back-to-back road. However, those home games for them are Marquette and Villanova, so who knows?

What's really ticking me off right now, is that they currently hold the three seed only because of that 8-on-5 game they beat us in, back in December.
Thats game pissed me off too, but they had other chances for W's. Choked @ Nova, Lost to DePaul, G-Town, and last place PC, Nova beat them by 18 last night.
Whatever, it's still in our hands to make the NCAA Tourny. Each one gotta look at themselves in the mirror and ask themselves if they want it. Got Fatigue? Yeah, well isn't that a mother, no one is gonna feel bad, because at this points, every team has it. Just gotta fight through it, that's if you want it the tourny bad enough.
It's all a mind set. Would be really sad if Ponds, who some say is our best player since Artest, doesn't make it.

Bought my plane tickets and my ticket to the Thursday afternoon quarterfinal session today. Going to buy tickets for the Thursday evening session tonight. Taking a leap of faith that we won't have to play (and get eliminated) Wednesday night.
Can't wait for March 14th.
Saturday, February 16th:

2:00 PM - Xavier at Providence - FOX
8:00 PM - Depaul at Butler - FS1
Need Providence and Butler to win I'd say. Our Providence road game still has a shot to be a Quad 1 win if we can beat them, and need our Butler win to remain a good win.
Providence is such a horrendous offensive team and I’m still pissed we lost to them at home
Yep. X up by 15 with 8 to go.
Providence is such a horrendous offensive team and I’m still pissed we lost to them at home
Providence is playing in this second half, like we did in the second half against them last week.

Diallo is just a tough matchup for us. Two inches taller then even our tall guards, and with equal athleticism. He, Govan, and the big kid from Depaul might be the three worst guys for us to match up with in the league (Hankins from Xavier is TBD in that regard).

True. But this still kills me to see how X, who is not that good, is taking it to a team that we should have easily beaten.

12-13 X @ PC up by 14 lol

I don't care if we beat Nova tomorrow, if PC sweeps us on Wednesday then yeah we suck, and don't deserve in the ncaa tourny, and don't want to freaking hear about the bad matchup bs.

mjmaherjr wont be happy if I see another loss in Providence. That's going to be an annoying 5am drive from Providence to be at work for market open

We owe them a beatdown

Amazing how bad PC has been at Dunk Center

Xavier is big inside and negates PC big play that gave us fits. All about matchups.

Agree. But that just got harder as now we’ll be facing them after a bad home loss by them to X.

Would like to avoid playing Providence in BE tourney and chance of doing that just got better as PC appears headed for Wednesday night play in game. We just need to make sure we aren't playing then too.
