Around College Basketball

Just a reminder that the kids we watch play 30 games a year have made sacrifices to get where they are.

High school junior Jalen Lewis is signing a $1 million-plus contract with the new Overtime Elite league, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The 16-year-old becomes the youngest to ever turn pro in American basketball.

I think this is a huge mistake, but we'll see. I suppose as long as he stays healthy things could work out. The amount he makes after taxes won't even be enough to buy a nice house in the Bay Area, and I doubt a 16-year-old is thinking that big picture anyway. If the first thing he does is buy a $100,000 car then I'll have serious concerns about this going well.

Another perpetual thief;

Kind of hard to thieve at CSUN.  Not exactly booster rich.  But unsurprising Gottfried found a way. This is two consecutive high profile failures after Reggie Theus before him.  Interesting to see where they go next.  My son goes to CSUN but I've never thought of attending a game.  Probably because he hasn't shown interest in any basketball game in 10 years.

Shockingly, I get the feeling that he won't be just another big white dud for them. Especially if he doesn't split at the first sign of success.

Scheyer  gets another 5 star to Duke,  Dariq Whitehead from Montverde, 6th ranked player in the '22 class.

I am sure there are many fans of college ball , yours truly included, who wondered if the winning could continue without Coach K. The hardest part is recruiting and Scheyer is proving right out of the gate that he can recruit at the highest level with 2 excellent commitments to start the class of 2022. If he can coach a bit they will be fine.

Ain’t gonna be as easy without coach K.  Wojo hasn’t become the next K, nor Amaker, nor a line of them.  We shall see.  The gravitas is irreplaceable.

Agree, but Scheyer has the benefit of the Duke institution and tradition at hand, vs.the others having lineage only.

While not a big deal, can we update the title of this thread?  The 20-21 season is over.

Emoni Bates, the No. 1 player in the class, told @Stadium he will reclassify and either head to college and the G-League this season. He said he will choose between Oregon, Memphis, Michigan State if he goes the college route.
