Around College Basketball

Oklahoma State is p;aying Texas for the Big Xll Championship. Mike Boynton has done a great job this year. Cade Cunningham is a pro, but the rest of the players have all shown improvement throughout the year. They beat West Virginia in a game that Cunningham sat out.

I have known Coach Boynton since he played at Bishop Loughlin. Coached againsyt him when he Riverside. He has always been a very mature and respectful young man. He had a nice career playing for Eddie Fogler at South Carolina. After a few stops, Boynton returned to South Carolina as an Assistant in 2008. He left with Brad Underwood to go to Stephen F Austin as an Assistant in 2013. When Underwood left for Oklahoma State, he brought Mike with him. When Underwood left for Illinois in 2017, Mike was named the Head Coach.

I posted this for two reason, first because Coach Boynton is from NYC and it is always nice to see city kids do we. Second, it showed that Oklahoma State made the right decision in hiring a trusted assistant.  Guess y'all know whi I am rooting for tonight.

Not sure if they can go all the way like a Carmelo effect, but Cade sure as hell frequently looks good enough to have a Glenn Robinson effect and carry them to the Final Four.

Boynton has done a nice job there. I guess football money eventually puts successful basketball coaches out of reach, but I'd have him on a future list of candidates when Anderson retires.

ESPN reported earlier that Duke may still play in the tournament as an at large bid or as a replacement for a team with COVID.

Un-freaking-believable.

I really can't see how Iona is Pitino's last stop, especially since Miller and Wade are still around.

There are already rumors about Pitino to Boston College. Should be an interesting off season. If Rick leaves, guess Iona will feel like the woman he had sex with on a restaurant table.

they had to know that it was only a matter of time. No debating that he is a great coach and program builder. He undoubtedly would have out-recruited the MAAC and had Iona in NCAA tournament every year. However, his qualifications and aspirations are greater and if the goal was to make Iona the Gonzaga of the East, it would take more time and patience than he has left.

He goes to any of the Power 6 and he is challenging in a few years.

Alabama vs. LSU is some game.  19.6 seconds to go Bama up by 1, LSU with the ball in their backcourt after a time out.

Fallout from firing Gaudio who recruited this kid & second player to break commitment in last few days:

Louisville signee Bobby Pettiford Jr. has decommitted from the program and was released from his NLI this morning, he told @Stockrisers.
