Around College Basketball

Anyone watching this NC State vs Duke game. Good game marred by absolutely bizarre happenings. Kid on Duke vomits all over the floor for 10 minute delay. Looks like he just got sick literally. He leaves the game.

Two minutes later they carried a young female fan out of the stands. She seemingly passed out. I hope and pray it’s not worse. I mean she was out and they carried her out ASAP. No trying to anything. Man I hope that kid is ok. Just bizarre.

Scary. Hope that kid is ok.

Maybe that’s why they brought in Belichek for football. They’ll get killed in the SEC football even with the downturn in football this season. Given that UNC basketball is fluttering might not be a great time to join the SEC either.
Fully expect to see Clemson, FSU, UNC and NC State in the SEC.

Believe that sends Stanford, Cal, maybe Pitt and Louisville to the Big 12. Tho maybe Stanford and Cal to the Big 10 but they didn't want them last time.

The ACC is reaping the whirlwind. Spent decades trying to savage the BE for football and now will itself get savaged by bigger fish for football.

Couldn't happen to a nicer league. Sorry, Carmine.

Still think UVA to SEC is likely. I get all the athletics reasons why it doesn't make sense, but the SEC seems infatuated by them.

I think Stanford and ND is the B10's best pivot. If Stanford leaves, why wouldn't Cal happily join the Pac-10? Why would the ACC be good enough for SMU if these dominoes fall?

The ACC started the modern day conference realignment period, and they deserve to be a dead conference by the end of it. Shakesperian that their greatest coach of all time is hoping for a Big East merger to save it.

Knicks and Rangers are of course are priority, Bill Joel and we fall somewhere behind that but ahead of Ru. The number of games we played there in the past had to do with a lot of factors including the fact that we sucked for so many years and online when UConn came to town and the occasional game against Syracuse. St. John’s was losing money.

This year has changed the narrative and I am sure everyone knows it. More games at MSG, the dates and times is a decision made among MSG, St. John’s, the Big East (scheduling) and Networks to work on. The better this season goes, the more games at MSG.

Getting mad or upset because others use the Worlds Most Famous Arena especially on a day when we were off is just a waste of time and thought.

The way I look at it is they schlep to our home court to get some recognition.

ND will remain an independent.

Stanford generates no money in football. Truly is a trash football program that offers the B!G absolutely nothing on the gridiron.

Who wants to watch Stanford vs. Ohio State? Nobody

ND changing their scheduling affiliation agreement with the ACC to B10 would make a lot of sense, especially since NBC has B10 and their rights.

B10 will eventually want Stanford for their academic prestige/research capabilities. I also think you're underestimating Stanford's program. Been in a bit of a ditch the last ten years, but they were a premiere program in the beginning of Shaw's tenure. Geographically, I also think its inevitable the B10 expands to help their west coast contingent. Andrew Luck was just hired as their GM, so they're finally taking the NIL era seriously.

Yes, it is very likely that Nil is going to ruin the balance of power in college basketball and that the huge football conferences with unlimited $$$ take over at the expense of the Acc and other basketball centric conferences? Perhaps it's happened already and it plays out that way in March 25. But shouldn't we get to see empirical tournament evidence of it for a season or 2 till we determine the ship sank? Cause just LAST YEAR the Acc constitution floated above almost all other conferences.

No. The P2 is destroying college sports. The first teams to go are private schools - sans ND Miami, USC (is already in the B!G) etc.

It's all about the networks and conference affiliations and humungous payouts.

Writing is all over the wall.

Some solid points regarding geography and prestige... I won't argue against any of that.

Blip on the radar. Aint happening again.

Stanford's best attraction is they are an AAU school and that is something the conference covets. Geography is a biggie for the west coast contingent... Their collective success in sports is a better selling point than football, imho.

Noticing a lot of folks omitting Miami from a move to the B!G. AAU school, solid academics, footprint in Florida, tremendous football school, etc.

Granted, I'm a die hard Cane football fan so I may have a bias, but outside Clemson and FSU no other program moves the needle in football - and that is where the real money is made.

Stanford's an elite athletics program. As long as they decide to actually do NIL and not ignore it from a principle standpoint (which I think they've been doing -- trying to be like an Ivy school), they can be elite very quickly. Their donor base is insane.

Miami is a shoe-in for the Big 10.

This is the conference that took in Rutgers with open arms.

They don't care about the quality of their bottom feeders. They care about the markets.

Maybe a time will come when a homeless Duke basketball program seeks shelter in the Big East.

Not that this is ideal or all that realistic, but my dream would be for the Big East to take in Duke/Syracuse/Pittsburgh/Louisville/Wake Forest/Boston College + take West Virginia & create a football conference to replace the ACC.

This will be a replica of the 1990’s Big East with football and basketball only schools.

Glad to see Kansas lost to Iowa State and AJ Storr played 10 minutes for Self, scoring 5 points.

Gee , Kansas must have paid a lot for Storr to leave Wisconsin and sit on the bench .
I think Storr has 1 more year left of eligibility after this year, maybe 2?

Anyway , I predict Storr leaves Kansas and goes to UCONN to play in Storr’s and Hurley .
Storr in Storrs , it’s catchy isn’t it ?
