Around College Basketball

The SEC is trying to corner the market in college basketball like they have in college football and baseball.
Long-term, I think they do it...

"If we don’t get into that game, we’re going to get left behind. It was now or never,” said UNC Trustee David Boliek, a former chairman of the board who was elected state auditor in November. “That’s what this amounts to: now or never to have someone like Coach Belichick come in and try to change the trajectory and do something different.”

Boliek wants UNC in another league, preferably the Southeastern Conference. One hope: Belchick and an in-demand football program can close the financial gap in the short term while positioning the Tar Heels to a conference jump in the medium term."

UNC/UVA additions would be check mate.

And/or FSU.

I just don't see why the SEC would take Virginia. FSU and Clemson 1-2 and then a big drop off to UNC, Miami, and Va Tech and another drop off to Louisville, Pitt, Virgina, etc.

Virginia averaged 38,000 fans per game this year with a 5-year average of 42,000. That's not big boy football. Va Tech averaged 65,000 this year and had a 5-year average of 61,000. Clemson 80,000 for both.

I know there is more to it than average attendance, but I think that is a really good measurement of interest.

Just 5 undefeated teams left and 3 of them are in the SEC (other two are mid majors Drake & Utah State).

I don't really get it either but UVA's been speculated. If I had to guess, it's non-sports factor of being AAU, premiere state school institution, research $$, new state for the conference, a lot of upside, etc.

One interesting name to watch in the Delaware game is Izaiah Pasha. He's the guy who said he'd play for Pitino. He's actually doing very well there as a freshman (relatively speaking).
