Around College Basketball

My three daughters graduated from U Delaware, TCNJ & Washington & Lee (I graduated from Queens College) so I never had any college sports bandwagon team to jump to other than my beloved Johnnies. Closest I've come to having a decent sports team to root for through my kids college is App State football where my son is a soph. Have attended a few football games in Boone which is a fun experience. Thank God for the Yankees!

My son goes to Wake Forest, but he has refused to give up his loyalty to St. John's basketball.  Makes me wonder whether he was actually smart enough to get into Wake...

Stupid is as stupid does.. My son brought in the mail and there was something about my Jets season tickets in there. He hands it to me and simply says "I thought you were smarter than this".

I actually think Wake has a chance to rise in the ACC.  They have first-class facilities, Forbes was a really good hire, and the coaches at the top of the league are well into the back nine of their careers.  At least the kid gets points for loyalty.

It reminds me of one of my partners who drove an old Blazer about 100,000 miles past the end of its useful life.  He refused to part with it until it finally died altogether.  His wife used to tell me that as frustrating as it was that he refused to get a new car, she figured that it was a good sign that he would stick with her when she was old and broken down too.

So prudent to sell my 57 Chevy?

Wake Forest BB has been in the doldrums in the ACC for a while now . Not as long as us but, they are usually in the bottom tier of that league . Which by the way , none of the former BE schools have really flourished there either . Syracuse , BC , Pitt, ND , Va Tech . Miami ? Maybe a little better but , not much .   If I had a Magic Wand , I would gladly trade Creighton , Marquette, DePaul , Xavier , Butler  if we could retrieve ND, Syracuse , BC, Pitt. . I wouldn't care about Va Tech , Miami , WVA .  Rutgers wouldn't matter either but , their resurgence this season is interesting . But , it's all a fantasy .

Younger brother of Thomas  who was a walk-on here last year after a stellar four year career playing Lacrosse at Maryland (won the National title when he was a Junior) and is currently on the staff as a Graduate Assistant.

Mike (who was heavily recruited for Lacross) left Chaminade after his junior year and transferred to Blair Academy (where he started in the backcourt with Kyle Cuffe Jr.) to get more experience and competition and, to hopefully get better offers in basketball.

I'm a little bit older than you so it was years ago that my older son was interested in Wake as a school. We visited the campus and even at the time we were impressed with their facilities and camplus.  Plus we knew it was a good school. He ended up at Emory but if he had decided on Wake, we know it would have been a good choice.

My Hoya cousin's wife went to Wake for undergrad (and loved it) so the ACC BE rivalry lives on in that house.  I guess her Law Degree from American did not impact her athletic allegiances.

Is there a reason we didnt recruit this kid being that he was in our backyard and his brother was on the team?  He looks like the next colin gillespe.

What would the reaction here be if SJU recruited either.  Let's be honest

Conor Gillespe-

3 Star

Villanova
FDU
Albany
Maine

Mike O'Connell

Stanford
Brown
Columbia
Dartmouth
Lafayette
Marist
UMBC
Niagara
UC-Santa Barbara

You know this often happens from a few after the fact.  They'll complain if we recruit such player.  But when said player lands with another high major (or even mid-major) and produce, then they wonder why we didn't target or go after said player.

Gillespie was 200 on 24/7, and O'Connell 188.

Both way higher than McGriff, also 3 star but at #435

take away these guys, i'd bet on 188/200 over 435.

McGriiff was already here we had added Posh.

Wow Duke not a very bright team. Up 4 in final seconds they contested two 3 point shots by BC the second went in with .7 second left. Why would you go anywhere near the shooter when the only way you lose is if you get called for a fould and BC ties it up on a 4 point play? I've seen this before and it's mind boggling.

Watching Oregon-Colorado. LJ not looking good at all.
