Around College Basketball

Most teams ate not stacked with pro players. Also, while I agree that some don't care about college degree at all, abd for some with legit pro potential, academics might be secondary, I don't think it's fair to say most are pretending to be students. Many take academics seriously (Tareq Coburn a great example...played mid to high level, no pro ball)
Not to argue but , Tarik was truly the epitome of the Student Athlete . He came to St John’s to become a Physicians Assistant , which is a rigorous Program of 3 years study
Admittance is highly selective to the program . St John’s accepted 108 Applicants in 2023 out of 8000 Candidates .
He was eligible to play another year of College BB . And , did while carrying that heavy load of the PA Curriculum .
The NIL and Portal had not yet gained the level it is at now , when he played .

But , now we see BB Players with $ 1million dollar contracts transferring 3 and 4 times between schools . What else would you call them but , Professionals?

The Portal has impacted the 17 -18 year old player to a after thought mostly as teams including ours opt for those 24-24 year old NBA wannabes. Most won’t make it .

Do you remotely think ours or any portal player is coming for advanced Graduate Education ? Maybe Ledlum and Dingle did but , they are the exception to the norm .

As for the Rankings ,I was only repeating a earlier post about Pre Season BE predictions . Not post season rankings . They were not my Rankings but , from other sources .

Thanks..

The # of grad level students will subside as the 5th year closes. Can't blame the players one bit for going where there they are either wanted by a coach (vs thrown to side abd recruited over), or to make decent $ elsewhere (not the bench guys with low pro potential). I just don't think its fair to characterize most as nit caring at all about getting an undergrad degree.

The Big East also lost NCAA bids to the Mountain West last season which did absolutely nothing with them. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Don't agree.

Seton Hall was not ranked, and they would have been in, if not for the unusually high number of bid stealers.

I think DePaul, and Georgetown to a lesser extent, collectivly brought the league's numbers down last season.
I just think they have it in for The Big East and will look for reasons to keep teams out rather than put teams in.

But, why would that be the case?
They gave the Mountain West (a football conference) 6 bids rather than have 5 Big East teams this past March. It’s obvious they want all the revenue going to the Power 5 and other football conferences rather than to the basketball only conferences. The committee views the Big East the same way they do the A-10 now. Look how they screwed the non - football conferences with legal settlement that was just announced? The writing is in the wall.

Mountain West was hyped up all year so it really was not a surprise with all that hype that they received as many bids as they did. Well, the conference was over-hyped and turned out to be a paper tiger.

The surprise (travesty) was that the Big East only received three bids. The reasons were due to bid stealers, the Big East being under valued and other Conferences (ACC and Mountain West as examples) being over valued.

Still can not believe that the BE, perenially one fo the strongest NCAA performing conferences, got only 3.
