Around College Basketball

I agree . Watched the Purdue-Wisconsin game and wondered why Storr was on the bench at Crunch time .
No one disputes he’s talented and can shoot but, , why would the Coach have him sitting in a game they wanted to win at home ?
Might have something to do with defense he plays or his inclination, at times, to play hero ball.

Storr shoots, he has played slightly less minutes than both the 2nd, 3rd and 4th most attempted shot players and he has taken more than 130 more shots than all of them, not combined of course, individually. Really just think he was not having a good shooting night and he does little else, so he sat. I would be surprised if that is a recurring approach.

But why would Clayton come to SJU next year after (1) declining to do so last year; and (2) having success where he's at?
#2 is the bigger concern to me. When he popped for Florida we didn’t have our NIL ducks in a row and Posh was still very much in the picture. He also may not have loved playing with a high volume combo guard.

Does little else besides shooting? He’s one of the most offensively talented sophomores in the country. He doesn’t just shoot.

Well, considering that he doesn't rebound, defend, or pass the ball much - it's a good thing he's "offensively talented"

I assume what you mean is "he isn't just a spot-up shooter, he can drive too." That's true. But you aren't really disagreeing with Logen's point.

Don't think his coach is that high on him. With a little over 2 minutes left in a close game he took him out, never to return in a close game. He shot 4for 15 and only had 2 fouls. In crunch time his coach took him out.
He jacked an early in the shot clock 3 and got pulled…that said, they all make mistakes nd he is a big talent

I remember during Lavin's tenure, we beat Lehigh who had CH McCollum. They went on to make the NCAA tournament. This will never happen again. After his Sophmore season, there would have been a bidding war. Each year, players become free agents, and can go to the highest bidder. Michigan would probably be a Big 10 favorite if Hunter Dickerson was still there. Rumor is he got 2 million from Kansas, smh. The NIL is destroying college sports as we know it.

It is the NCAA's fault for coming up with this idea without putting any limits on it.
It’ll kill college bball. There is not a single college player that deserves that kind of money or even close. Should be $20k which is more than enough for a college student.

..... There is not a single college player that deserves that kind of money or even close........

OK, please let me ask you if you believe there a single college coach that deserves to be paid $4M per year? .... $5M per year? ...... $6M per year? .......$7M per year? ......... $8M per year? If so, how do you reconcile the coach making multi millions of dollars and the players, under the former system receiving nominal amounts?

The blame for the current unwieldy N$L lies solely with the feckless NCAA which during the past decades blocked for the grey-haired men and did not share the riches with the players.

Please- please do not give me the tired spin about players receiving free tuition when the players work 7+/- hours per day, 360 days each year. An acquaintance that attended The Ohio State on athletic scholarship never once filled out his own course schedules because he was told what classes to take and when the classes would be offered which coincidentally avoided conflicts with lifting and practice times. He and most other student athletes are not "students" as most students at a college.

The blame for current ambiguity lies solely with the NCAA...... Ra-Ra- Rah!

Don’t disagree re: NCAA culpability…but they still don’t deserve to be paid this kind of money. College bball is all about allegiance to front of jersey. Once this becomes like the NBA, interest will wane.

Storr takes a lot of shots relative to the rest of the team, which I assume is his role on Wisconsin. He shoots 45% FGs, 33% 3‘s. He is a good scorer, but since for whatever reasons, in a season and a half he has done virtually nothing else, I would stop short of calling him a big talent. I think that is enough of a body of work to judge.

I am not attempting to be argumentative but if college players “don’t deserve to be paid the kind of money” they are paid then why should coaches not players, be entitled to accept market value contracts?

Likewise, if college basketball is about “allegiance to the front of jersey” then why hold players to a higher standard than coaches when coaches frequently bolt their program at the first opportunity to make a better financial deal?

Gave us a scare in the Lapchick tournament

Nobody comes to the game to see Coaches , Coach . They come to see alleged Student Athletes play BB . Coaches , even the Pitino’s, Coach K , etc are already paid employees and in this day and age , they are free agents to escape their contracts and move on .

We are still in transition in the Portal Age . Us fans haven’t fully adjusted to the fact that the Players are. now free agents too , and are paid professionals .
With all the Covid and Transfer Portal Rules , we mostly are seeing 24-25 year old Men , playing College BB for money .

They are no longer kids at those ages . Free agency negates any idea of loyalty to team or school . It will continue to be the SOP.
