Around College Basketball

David Jones has done well at Memphis . Good for him but , against Tulane he took 24 shots , hitting 12. Next player on Memphis had 7 shots .

Jones last year here was mostly lambasted as being a shot Chukker . And , often in not the most of admiring terms .

I would say , his style of play , at DePaul and here , is shoot first and then start to think about his next shot , the next time down Court .

It’s apparently not changed at Memphis and Hardaway has turned him loose .

Doubt he fits the Pitino style of play .
have followed Jones this year and this game was an exception to being a chukker. Shooting 46%/37% 3pt., from the field and normally gets in 15 shots per game. Whether he fits in with Pitino's system I don't know, but has been a great add for Memphis, leading scorer in AAC.

Jones is shooting 46% from the field 81% from the line and 37% from three all efficient numbers. Maybe that changes over the second half of the year, but so far he has been an efficient volume shooter.
Again, agree he is not Pitino’s type of player, I am just happy to see a former Johnnie doing well.

My fear with players like that is for the end of games. No matter how well they seem to play for 38 minutes, they are usually huge risks to make a mistake in the final 2. Discipline is so important at the end.

His %s are great so far though. It’s hard to complain when a kid is shooting 37% from 3, 46% from the field, and hitting 80% from the line on an absurd 7 attempts per game. He averaged 2 per game for 3 years…not sure where that came from.

Rick at his son’s game in New Mexico tonight. Scouting possible future NCAA T opponent? 🤣

I’m assuming that RP has a privets jet or a charter ? It’s a little surprising that RP is flying to distant places . Even to see his Son , Coach the Lobos ,

Plus , he’s recently recovered from Covid.

He is certainly pushing himself at age 71. No complaints from his doctors , I assume . Nor , us fans .

He’s living life to the fullest for sure .
