And Richmond apparently just lost one of its starters to a torn acl suffered in practice.

#14 Texas Tech loses to #17 Houston 64-53.
Mcclung had off game, shooting 3-11 and 0-6 from 3.
Based on what I saw, think SJU can pull this off. Texas Tech is not a deep team and had difficult time vs Houston's athleticism.

Michigan with a 7'2 255 lb big. Backs defenders down easily and scores inside at will. He is going to win this game for Michigan in OT. I still think any team going anywhere still needs that type of player.

Yup. I wasnt impressed at all with Tex Tech. We can beat them.

Hofstra got killed by Rutgers today as expected...interesting side note. Isaac Kante, a former SJ target I believe, recorded 17 rebounds in 27 minutes. Monster rebounder.

How many of “that type of player” exist? So few

Not necessarily 7 footers obviously, but 6'10+ 225+ real big men who can score down low and bully a bit are still needed IMO. We are often told that they are not important anymore, but more times than not, the elite teams have them. They may not be able to run the floor like gazelles or jump 10 ft in the air, but we could use some muscle and size in a more traditional sense. Don't see any Big East level traditional big on our roster which will hurt us again. Moore is a PF not a C.

For anyone who doesn’t have things to do like work maybe, there are a couple of possibly interesting games on tv before the St. John’s game. No 19 Texas takes on Davidson from Asheville N.C. And then Indiana takes on Providence. I believe this is part of the Maui Invitational which in accordance with all the strange things of 2020 is of course NOT in Maui!. The games are on ESPN2.

Games start at 12 this afternoon. FYI.

Are those "type of players" welcomed? I'd say yes. But they aren't "needed" in order to win.

Thanks for this reminder sjc88. I will definitely tune in to the Davidson game. I have a feeling they might be a little underrated in preseason A10 rankings I've seen (picked in second tier of league) and Texas game will give me an indication whether that is the case.

NC Johnnie, your feeling that they might be underrated (Davidson) seems on the mark. Been a close game from the start but Texas up by 7 with 7 minutes to go.

It's been a good game. Davidson so well coached but when they shoot 4-15 from three tough for them to beat a team like Texas.

Still right there though.

Wow. Davidson two chances to tie or win but come up short. 78-76 Texas W. Excellent game.

Wonderful game. Texas beats Davidson 76-74. Davidson had a good look at a 3 to win it at the buzzer but not their day from 3. McKillop continually finds talent that fits his system from overseas. Starters today from South Korea, Austria & New Zealand and one of first guys off the bench from the UK.
