Interesting article (op-ed/hypothesis) but does anyone really see ND coming back to the Big East ?

yes. it can.

from a sentimental, qualitative side, joining Big East gives them some level of stability. Keeps huge east coast alumni engaged and happy.

but the real way to make it happen is for Fox to open their wallet for ND Football (contract expires next year with NBC). reports are that it would take about $75MM per year for broadcast rights.

then have Fox whisper in their ear about joining the BE for all non-football sports.

Would Notre Dame have to pay the exit fee and grant of rights fees to the ACC if they left? They are not full members, but wondering if it would be prorated if they bolt. since they play ACC football teams, do they get any share of the TV revenue or Bowl revenue ?

ACC should first have asked for a show of hands who would leave if they were granted immediate release, and then excluded them from the vote.
That’s the thing with the ACC, there are three groups with wildly different interests.

FSU, Clemson, and Miami want to go to one of the two power conferences immediately, the next tier would probably stay if the top stayed, and the lower tier is holding on for dear life. And then there is Notre Dame😂

Great article in The Athletic this week on Rutgers' futility since moving to the Big10.

"Rutgers’ time in the Big Ten has been a competitive and financial nightmare, compounded by a few salacious scandals. Entering its 10th season in the conference, the football team has gone 13-66 in league play. Meanwhile, despite astronomical increases in shared Big Ten revenue, the athletic department has racked up more than $250 million in debt...."

If Rutgers is operating this deeply in the red, UConn will have it worse.

I think they would require more initial money to invest in its football program, while pouring money frequently for upgrades.

I am all for UConn taking on that challenge.

That's stunning to me ( not joking )

Good article about the out-of control spending at Rutgers. Here is one exerpt:

For more than a year, Rutgers University football players enjoyed a pricey perk that few other students had access to — free DoorDash food deliveries from restaurants, convenience stores and pharmacies, paid for by the university, and ultimately by taxpayers and students. And the costs piled up.

Football players ordered more than $450,000 through DoorDash from May 2021 through June of this year, according to a review of invoices and other documents obtained by NorthJersey.com. While Rutgers intended the service to provide players up to five meals for a total of $75 per week, some players rang up daily totals of $100 or more, some topping $200. One player placed three orders in Chicago on a single day totaling $200 after Rutgers had completed its football season.

Reminds me of the "old" days on how athletes could "earn a little extra cash". I was seening a girl in the DC area and stayed in Gtown dorms with a friend. When we had a meal in the cafeteria you would have to pay but the Basketball players had meals included with scholarships so they would load up a tray and they sell off to other students and then go backand load up again and repeat the monetary exchange. For one knows, the RU folks could be getting a little extra spending money by selling off the orders.
