Around College Basketball

Last paragraph- Definitely don't want a Big East football school reincarnation unless its a different/new conference just made of those schools.

Would create same issue for the current BE basketball schools (minus Uconn) with some schools having football to help $ wise.

Basketball only powerhouse keeps it as a differentiator.
I'm thinking they're meaning it's a technically different conference which is made up of the leftovers: Syracuse, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech + a couple schools like Temple, Memphis, UCONN. Sounds like a fun conference.... :ROFLMAO:

Hey the Big East will make some money from UConn exit fees if the ACC splits and UConn heads to the revamped ACC lite conference.

The UConn- Big East Conference agreement provides that the Connecticut taxpayers will pay the Big East an exit fee of $30M if UConn departs before the end of the 6th year and a reduced sum of $15M is it exits before the end of the 9th year, and a further reduced exit fee of $10M if UConn departs anytime thereafter.

Should have been $100 million since everyone but the people setting the exit fee knew that it would eventually happen.

was not the contracted exit fee dramatically reduced when ucant last bolted?
i believe cma's lawyer is willing to take ucants case.

Have there ever actually been rumors like that?
Well I I know that the sec wants FSU/Miami and wants to corner the market on Florida football programs. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Big 10 wanted a piece of the premier Florida football market.

I guess it wasn't that big unless you're a UF fan

Big10 would make sense if they want to expand to FL market

Correct.

The B!G seems like the the most logical choice for Miami - the SEC is for the Noles.

The SEC doesn't want the B!G in Florida... But the B!G wants in.

I can see the following:

B!G: Miami, ND, UNC, UVA
SEC: FSU, Clemson, NC State, VT
B12: Louisville, Pitt, Cuse, Duke
No clue: BC and Wake

I was gonna say, Miami better fit for Big 10 imo. Guaranteed we see movement in Florida amongst the big 3 somehow.

The state of Florida not U of F.
The Big Ten would love UF. It would by far be its first choice school in Florida but I can’t see it leaving the SEC, so they would then have to choose between Florida State and Miami if the ACC implodes. Neither are AAU universities but both are close. They are both tied at #55 in the U.S. News Rankings. Miami is #75 in NSF R and D expenditures and FSU is 81. 13 of the 14 Big Ten schools were top 50 in NSF rankings for reference. Nebraska is the only outlier and both Florida State and Miami are far superior universities to Nebraska based on any metrics that I could find.

Notre Dame is not AAU mainly due to it not having a medical school but is tied for 18th in U.S. News rankings which would be the highest ranked Big Ten school even after the California expansion.

Florida is not leaving the SEC.

You gave another reason why Nebraska just doesn’t fit the Big 10.

The Big 10 would take ND and either one of the Florida schools to give it sixteen teams. They are waiting on ND IMHO. Out of all the power conferences, they and the SEC are sitting at the top, are by far the most stabile and are waiting to pick and choose based on the fallout from the other conferences.

Nebraska was AAU but lost that credential while in the Big 10. You have to imagine down the line, the inverse of this conversation also begins — when do programs get dropped from these conferences?

I think the SEC will try for both Miami and Florida State to shut the Big 10 out of the state. We’ll see. I also think Georgia Tech is an underrated option for the Big 10 as well: big market, great recruiting ground, and coupled with other new programs (Miami, UNC, Virginia), will also be another major city with Big 10 alum.
