Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19

I'm no fan of in-season firings in collegiate sports. The only way I'd agree if the the coach does something egregious or an appalling act occurs under his or her watch. Otherwise, I think firing for losing games should be done after the season in college athletics.
Normally I would agree with you but their are exceptions to the rule. Take Mike Jarvis, who was Insubordinate to his superiors and had to be let go. In Alford case, it was pretty ugly now and was going to get worst. As the article stated, he was not coming back next year and everyone knew it so he was a "dead man walking." From the way the team looked, it appeared he had already lost them so before things got worst (both on and off the court) they had to make a change.
It was always a puzzling hire to me. I wonder where Alford goes from here.
They settled when they couldn't get the people they really wanted.
Anyone else see Vitale aggressively promoting the idea of Pitino to UCLA? That's crazy talk.
Watching Duke - Clemson. They’re talking about WoJo, when Dickie V says “I thought Marquette was the class of the BE until they ran into the Red Storm”. Gave props to Coach and 33 for the jobs they are doing at their Alma maters. Sang a little “Happy Birthday Luigi”

Nevada got smoked by a bad team today. Take a look at their resume. Nothing great. Best win vs pretty good ASU team. Nothing else stands out. I’m not saying we’re better then Nevada, but I’m interested in seeing where they drop in the rankings. Answer this, if it’s on resume, why should they be ranked higher than SJU? And if it they say it’s about actual eye test/talent then why the hell havnt we been ranked yet?

Impossible to try to understand something so illogical. A lot of voters will just knock them down 7-10 spots or so and not think anything of it. We obviously deserve to be ranked ahead of them, though.

Wasn't sure where to put this, but just saw an article on ESPN. The Warriors and Kings last night set the NBA record by both making over 20 3 pointers in a game. Warriors had 21 and Kings had 20. The teams combined to shoot 83 of them! Man the game has changed so much. You obviously have seen this trickle down to college basketball in recent years.

Big blow for Kansas per Goodman. Norm’s fault :)
Kansas big man Udoka Azubuike is done for the season after an MRI revealed he tore a ligament in his right hand. Crushing blow to a Jayhawks team that is also without Silvio De Sousa (NCAA eligibility

In other news, De Sousa suddenly becomes eligible again.
Virginia is very impressive.
Shutting #9 FSU down, 32 with under 5 to play.
I would love for us to find ourselves in their bracket.

In today's day and age of college basketball it is amazing the type of defense they play against strong competition. Their coach has been emphasizing this for years at various locations. I have been coaching for many years and steal a host of his defensive principles. The kids that play allay defensive at an elite level.

I'm think I'm most wary of them. We'd need a hot start. I was about to say that I'd love to see Kansas on the condition that their brittle big man got injured in the first round, but then I clicked back a page and saw that he's out for the season.

We can score and they can't. I'd love it. They are always ripe for the picking. You can play all the D you want but a center like Clark hitting bombs with a megastar like Ponds will be 70+ every day.

They are definitely not built for comebacks, which is why they were embarrassed last year. I would just feel more comfortable getting out of the gate super quick against them.

Be very careful what you wish for. I love our program and support us 100%. This would be one tough match-up for us, especially in a one game elimination. Would rather play them in best of 5 or 7. They are much better offensively this year than previous seasons.

Good one on ESPN tonight at 9 after Johnnie game - UNC vs. NC State. Also Tariq & Texas Tech play Oklahoma at 9.

Rutgers Just beat #16 Ohio State 64 to 61
#9 Virginia Tech Squeezes by Georgia Tech 52 to 49
Temple (losers to SJU opponents VCU and Nova) defeated previously Undefeated #17 Houston 73 to 69

All of these games should improve our profile.

And Bowling Green has won 6 straight games by an average of 20 points per game. Saturday they play at 13-2 Centeal Michigan. The MAC is nasty this year with Buffalo leading the way.
