Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season

Pac-12 press release says the league will postpone all sport competitions through the end of the 2020 calendar year — which essentially eliminates the nonconference basketball season.

You think the Big Ten would allow that?

No shot of this happening. I would think that conference bylaws would preclude any team from leaving to play in another conference. Plus, any potential early leave fees, plus loss of tv revenue would bankrupt a school..

Writer from Boise, while discussing Mountain West cancelling fall football, said Boise athletic budget was $40 million, half off which would be generated from football.

I have no clue but how do u tell a school like ohio state that they cant play even though the SEC, ACC and Big 12 can. I cant imagine oh st is going to go quietly into the night.

Ohio State voted to not play, along with 9 other teams. Only Nebraska and Iowa voted to play.

The Big 12 presidents have decided to continue on to keep playing this season and are expected to have a revised schedule already in the works. @SoonerScoop was first to report the news.

I support Coach Holtz opinion. People in this country need to face their fears, and fight this virus head on.

Except smart people have been facing it for months already by wearing masks and social distancing. How are athletes going to do either of those things?

"Fight this virus head on" by exposing yourself to it and infect yourself, your teammates, coaches, friends, and families?
Seems sensible planning.

Hockey players, nba players, and baseball players are playing, hockey and basketball are both contact sports.

One thing no one has addressed regarding fall sports are the rules of each state vis a vis quarantining people who visit a state that is considered a hot spot. NYS has a quarantine for all folks entering NY from say Florida. In ACC Cuse could have to travel to play either Miami or Florida State. The players coaches and support staff on the trip would have to quarantine upon returning. That means no practice and games until quarantine is completed. Or suppose Miami or Florida State plays at the Dome; do they arrive 10 days before the game and sit in quarantine until game time? A problem that needs to be addressed. So in addition to the medical problems, this is a logistical problem for conferences with teams spread over a large number of states.

The Big 10 will look foolish when the other conferences play and have a great season. I am not a huge college football fan but will be tuning in alot this year. Way to go SEC and ACC and hopefully the Big 12!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pro sports don’t have to adhere to those quarantine rules. If college athletics were to be played they wouldn’t either if the provided consistent testing protocols like the pro sports

What's the differnce? Hockey players aren't catching it and neither are the nba guys.
Yeah the Marlins and cards got exposed to it, but those two were off field issues.

If college can do the same as the pros (now can they or not, I have no idea), then I'd expect the same results.

How exactly can the NCAA bubble 4,550 men's college basketball players?

lol they can't.
I was thinking each conference can get a bubble of some sorts individually.
