Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season

Anyone see Tom Izzo throwing a hissy fit because they won't declare Joey Hauser immediately eligible? I'm not sure how he even has a case here.

Personally I wouldn't call it a hissy fit. He's saying what a lot of us have been saying.

"We opened Pandora's box, and maybe it will never be shut," Izzo said.

"Joey didn't come here because he thought he was going to play right away," the coach said. "There was not even any talk about that. But as waivers started to pile up as the summer went on, Joey and his family felt they had a strong case. And I don't really appreciate when some people are getting waivers and other people aren't.

What I meant by Hissy Fit was that he stepped down from the NCAA board as a result of not getting his way here.

It was the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) board of directors, not the NCAA. And his most salient quote to me was "There's arbitrary decisions being made..............by individuals who don't really understand what's going on in our game." The same opinion was also offered by Geno Auriemma and IMO is a valid one. With all due respect, IMO you got this one wrong, In actuality, Izzo has been attempting to try to bring some sanity to this problem within the NABC for a fairly long time. Since none of the reasons for a waiver request is made public, no one really knows which ones seem valid and which do not. Since waivers are judged by different people interpreting very subjective criteria it is just an absolute $hit$how.

I don't necessarily agree but I definitely see your point, it is a tough call IMO. There are certainly cases where making details public is just the absolute wrong thing to do. So if it has to be Y/N (and it probably does) I would have to pick No.

None as he wasn’t a college coach at the time, the kid gets punished though.
The kid wasn’t a college student at the time either
But he received or his family received benefits that no longer make him eligible to be an amateur and therefore unable to play in the NCAA. To become eligible he has, to repay the money (or his parents do either to the party or to a charity) and sit out some games to become deemed an "amateur" and eligible to play in the NCAA. That is the rule and they go caught.

Now is a kid supposed to know where his parents got money for them to relocate, or they or a handler are receiving under the table payments?.

I do agree with the punishment for the most part because without one this could get out of hand real quick. I don’t like that the kid has to pay back (albeit to a charity) the money but isn’t allowed to make money.

My biggest gripe is the fact that these coaches, who make all of the money, keep getting away with everything without any punishments. Why is the student being suspended 12 games but the coach not getting anything?

FINAL | Memphis 87, Ole Miss 86

Absolutely love your new emoji! Well done, Moose. IMHO, you win the Internet today! :)

I just noticed Prince Achiwua had a big game yesterday in a Memphis Win. Playing without Wiseman until first week of January . Apparently the NCAA blessed Wiseman’s appeal if he pays back the money that Penny Hardaway” lent him to the tune of $ 10k.” And , Penny got the kid to transfer from a HS in Nashville to a HS in Memphis last year . Wiseman, of course , the number 1 player last year in HS ratings . Sounds a little dirty to me but , I guess the NCAA saw it differently . As long as he paid back the money . But , what if he doesn’t or goes NBA after 1 season and says , “ Bleep you to Memphis.” The other thing that has me amazed is how Prince wound up at Memphis . I mean he was highly recruited by us and countless others and chooses Memphis ? Why not one of the Traditional blue chip programs ! These 2 things together tell me it’s not such a level playing field in Recruiting , is it ? I admit I have no inside info on Achiuawa ‘s recruiting but , ...... anyone know more ?

UVA may be boring to some, but they certainly can defend. Beat ASU by 3 today

Their style keeps the games close, but they seem to be able to turn it when they have to.

Our season is tied to UVA in 1st and 2nd degrees in terms of RPI/SOS.

Of course it's dirty. If they needed to borrow the money in the first place because they couldn't afford the move, how are they suddenly able to afford to pay it back? Kid hasn't gone pro yet.
