Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season
#9 Virginia at home loses to South Carolina by 11. UVA seldom loses at home.
If you look at Virginia they are an interesting comp with SJU. They have beaten the two teams we have lost to. Vermont and AzState. Both close wins. Like us they have beaten UMASS and Columbia. Their two losses were convincing at the hands of Purdue and South Carolina. Very interesting.
St. John's is "Next Four Out", according to Lunardi. He has 8 Big East teams in the tournament, as of this moment.

While there is no dominance at the top of college basketball this year, there does appear to be a strong bubble, at least early on.
How about the fact that West Virginia is a 4 seed and Arizona is a 5 seed. SJU beat both.

It’s so early and tough to get worked up over this stuff now. I still think we have lots of bumps ahead. However, for arguments sake who exactly has Arizona beaten? My logic will hurt us but take a look. No question that reputation matters more than wins. By the way, according to this Vermont (one of our losses) is a #13 seed. Just shows you how high a perception hurdle we will need to overcome to make the tournament. This is not based on results but perception.

Correct. Right now, perception rules. But by the end of the year, perception will be gone as after 30 games, there is enough tape out there on all these teams.

St Johns is right where we need to be. After we bring the house down NYE and beat Butler, we will be in Lunardis bracket.

To have Illinois above us is ludicrous. They are awful, have lost 4 games already and got routed by AZ. Lunardi isnt putting much work in here as Illinois is nowhere near a tourney team and should be ranked waaaaaaaaaaaaay below us.

At the end of the day, we are fighting other Big East teams as much as we are teams from other conferences. The Big East had a pretty good non conference season. I don’t think eight Big East teams will ultimately get in but six is certainly realistic. We are positioned fine compared to much of the Conference in our record so far. Now we have to go out and fight for an NCAA tournament bid by playing well and winning games. I have no idea how many we would need to win at this time. Conference play can be very different and I still would not be shocked if we win six or less games. It’s one game at a time.

Just keep playing hard, with heart & together and ratings will take care of themselves.

First five BE games are tough with three on the road. Going 3&2 will set a nice tone.

On our NET moved up to 48 so we are trending in the right direction.

coaches poll:
#9 Villanova
#11 Butler
#28 SHU
#29 Xavier
#34 Marquette
#36 Creighton
#40 DePaul
SJU NO FREAKING VOTES AFTER GOING 11-2, BEATING 2 TOP 25 TEAMS.

To me that's tells me one thing, they just want to disrespect SJU, and I don't really like feeling disrespected. So I'm gonna say one thing.

These coaches could go F themselves. They know damn well we deserve some acknowladgement, but not one lousy vote?

I wouldn’t/don’t take these polls too seriously. I looked it up and it is made up of 32 Head Coaches. If these guys are coaching teams my guess is they watch less of teams they aren’t or won’t play then several posters on this site. I watch tons of basketball and by the time we get to the Tournament their are several teams I have never seen or aren’t televised. So for example, Jim Boeheim is one of the 32. Do you really think Jimmy is staying up late to watch Colorado at New Mexico (I made that game up)? I think I know a couple guys on this board who might but I am betting Jimmy isn’t. Don’t read to much into it.

Unfortunately what will likely happen is the Big East will canobalize itself like in recent years. There are not any bottom feeders in the conference like the other major conferences, so it may prevent upside seeding and total number we get in.

Respect his results but safely Chris Mack is a prick;

Chris Mack asked about Kentucky's late execution: "I want to say this in a respectful way: They don't run a whole lot."

Watching WVU in a close game with #2 Ohio St in a game that could help our resume.

Also, if Ohio st is the 2nd best team in the nation, then anyone can win March madness this year. They just aren’t that great

LET'S GO WVU!!!

Big 8 point W over #2 Ohio St. Great for our resume!

That win was great for us. Aside from West Virginia it helps us more than anyone. Should bump us up a couple of spots in the NET tomorrow. Mountaineers have #5 Kansas @ Phog Allen up next.

When asked about Mack's execution, LJSA said, "I'd be all for it."

They have a real shot in that game because they have the bigs to match Kansas and Azibuke.

Noticed some fans of other teams talking about WVU and saying their only loss "was to SJ so they're pretty good". It was very fun reading opposing team fans talk about us in a positive light lol. I'm more used to, "well that was a tough game but we have St. John's next so that's a W". Changing perception.
