Anderson - is he really the guy ?

Mike Cragg has volumes of information that he can study in deciding whether to bring back Anderson which I certainly think he will do. Some of the most valuable information would be from the players who left. We know they publicly stated they wanted more playing time which is pretty universal in the transfer portal but most of those who left were going to get reasonable minutes at SJU, SJU was not bringing in a stellar recruiting class, so was that the main reason.

And that is what so many find so disappointing. We all understand Caraher, Crime Dog, Roberts and Moore leaving ( though I hated to see Moore leave and yes I read what he posted publicly before it was removed ). You are correct that we had anything but a stellar recruiting class coming in. Traoré was redshirted and yes Stanley’s last game was very good but there was no indication he was going to take time away from anyone up front. Nyiewe was a complete mystery with little track record and Pinzon was a good recruit that CMA could use at three different positions so again no reason to fear him breathing down any one’s back.
At that point it was very easy for CMA to tell any one of Earlington, Williams, Dunn and Cole that there would be increased minutes for them this season on a team that would be competing for an NCAA birth, this was not rocket science. The spots and the minutes were there for all 4 of those players who knew the system, the first three of which had shown very good progress under CMA with Cole having some good games his first year of Division 1 Bball. For a coach that runs a difficult system that relies on continuity the departure of those four was very difficult to accept.

Beast - all good, but to consider it ridiculous for a major program, just look around the league and where many of coaches came from.

All only after having demonstrated success.

It would also be interesting to find out their feelings on Anderson’s coaching abilities now that they had a year under other staffs.
Would you really be interested in bringing Moore, Cole, Earlington et al for exit interviews?. I would agree that CMA needs to step up recruiting and ideally make some changes to his half court O/D approach. The only transfer that was baffling was Williams (who may regret it given fact that he has been buried on bench outside of most recent game). So, don’t think their reasons for transferring, outside of GW, are surprising.

Learning from past is one thing, but engaging the 2021 transfers seems counterproductive. Am sure Cragg and Mike discussed the topic in detail. Time to move on in my opinion and recruit their tails off inclusive of transfers who can move the needle.

Steele, Stubblefield, Ewing had no prior HC experience. Others had HC experience like Jordan, Willard, Cooley but weren't rock stars.
All only after having demonstrated success.

That’s not the point. My statement was specific to coaches at mid major or less who have yet to demonstrate success. Not assistants at successful programs (Steele, Stubboefield) or in the NBA (Ewing)

I certainly don’t expect SJU to have any contact with the players who transferred but If it true and I don’t know if it is,the fact that it was reported that the  players wanted no part of the NIT but wanted to end the season would make me look for answers if I was Cragg.

Well said RMN. The idea, floated around on this board early on, that kids left after last season because they were afraid of being  pressed for PT by unknowns, top 300 recruits and mid major kids  was pure folly. Kids left for reasons that we may never know. Nor does it matter. It only matters that they left. Maybe it was a one time thing, but if it happens again after this season then it becomes a trend and a major problem.

Will Posh return?
Its a really good question.  It doesnt seem Posh or Wusu pay any attention to what Coach says during timeouts.  Multiple times when FS1 has gone inside the huddle, Coach has to say, "Listen up now" multiple times.  With posh and wusu staring off in the distance.

I am more pessimistic than I've been since the end of the Mullin regime when it was clear no one but Justin Simon was the least bit engaged as we got destroyed by Marquette in the BET. We are cursed almost as badly as the Knicks...

This can’t be the coach next season. But we all know that won’t happen. They’ll finish 16-15 this year and we’ll have another season full of the following, “Mike Anderson one of 3 active coaches to never have a losing season!” Incredible!!!

But CMA teams get better toward the end of the season so we're do for a heck of a run through April.

I almost feel that we won't win another game this season.
Another mass exodus, I think.  Posh will move to a better program.

This season is proving to be an excellent springboard for the often referenced facilities capital campaign. Just kidding now guys. :)

We don't draw because we don't win
We don't win because we don't draw
We can't get new facilities, which will help us win, because we don't draw and fans don't donate
Fans don't donate because we don't win

It's a vicious cycle with no end in sight.

As Paultzman alluded to in the DePaul game thread there are as many posts in this thread since the game ended as there are in the post game thread, how sad.
A team that possibly still had post season aspirations comes out flat, zero sense of urgency , plays zero D and gives up 99 points to DePaul , frigging DePaul. Had anyone post such an outcome before the game no one would have believed it. Then to top it off , Posh our truly fearless leader, the straw that stirs the drink,  is benched to start the game.
The silver lining is that pretty soon there won’t be any more season ticket holders and we will be able to move the students close to the court and not worry about offending long time donors and ticket holders.
