When you return the conference’s leading scorer and the co-defensive player of the year, you’re starting off with a hell of a lot of talent that other BE coaches could only wish for.

So stop downplaying Julian and Posh.

if you can’t win with them, you can’t win at all.

You are overrating them both at this point. They are very good but not great players. Neither is NBA starter material. Posh probably wouldn’t even get a look at the NBA right now. You can’t win with just two very good players.
You can win with 2 very good ballplayers as long as the surrounding cast is strong. They don't need to be NBA level strong, they need to be college level strong. Even the top 2 players don't need to be nigh level NBA type players.  However we still lack so many components that most very good teams have;
A 6'9" +/- banger
A pure shooter
A low post scoring threat
A shot blocker
A secondary ball handler
Etc

This team was poorly assembled. CMA had to scramble because of the roster turnover, so he grabbed who he could. Individually all of the kids can contribute something , but it seems that we just lack some of the components needed to be an upper echelon Big East team.

I agree, which is why I said you can’t win with JUST two very good players. It’s also why I give MA some slack. With the crazy transfer rules, it hasn’t been a normal recruiting environment.
Fair enough. First time around he gets cut some slack, even if many other coaches adjusted immediately and have proven to be successful at the transfer game. This off season it's imperative that he bring in some impact transfers. Especially with Champ gone. No excuses.
Have to agree. This is a huge off season (crazy that we’re even talking about it). Must bring in IMMEDIATE contributors

Wonder how clean Lavin's staff was on those early and big signings..

I don't recall there ever being any speculation or noise about anything illegal with Lavin's signings other than the kid with the fake transcripts issue. He did take some chances with highly rated recruits who had non-basketball issues, at least one of whom, Norvel Pelle, failed to qualify. I suspect very few in college basketball recruiting are spotless, but I think Lav was simply a very good recruiter (if not a great x's and o's coach).
You don’t quickly put a class together like the Pointer, JaKarr group w/o help and creativity imo.
I'm sure other fan bases were questioning how we did it. We just didn't do it in such an egregious way that the NCAA got involved. Plus the kids were able to keep their mouths shut.

Could be Paultzman, you're certainly way more in the know on things like this than I am. I just never heard any noise about those signings, I guess fans and the local media were too busy being overjoyed at Lav's early success.

Although there is always a possibility, I've never heard even an inkling about anything below board and I'm fairly involved. I will say this about Lavin. There is one questionable person who has hung around the program since Looie. Lavin supposedly told this person to stay away during his time here.

Let's start this party 20 min early Duke.

Anderson earned another ~$80K for that.

Wonder if Shanley was at MSG to see this ineptitude first hand.

I’m done with CMA.  Replace at season’s end.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  Listen I think we were all patient with CMA.  His first 2 years, we understood he was new and needed some time and we were patient.  But when Champy decided to come back, that was the point where CMA had to start winning.  And this season has turned into his worse season yet.  The program is going in the wrong direction.  Cragg must fire CMA at years end.  Its not debatable.

Imagine if we didn't extend CMA after he accomplished absolutely nothing and had his team quit on him. We could actually get rid of him this year (or end of next year at the latest).

Still need to figure a way out of this contract, though. The sooner the better.

Dear Mike

Hope you had a great time at a more than half empty MSG.

This is an ongoing embarrassment

Get a young, hungry coach in here and save some $. $80k per game and the guy cannot make any simple adjustments to his antiquated game style.

Embarrassment

Get the board to fix the infrastructure quick so we can get a decent recruiter coach in here to bring in some legit horses vs. trying to coach up.

Nice guy, awful coach & recruiter

Step up and make the tough but right call to cut bait, suck up any contract and get a real coach for this era before we fade into obsurity

Sincerely

Good.  Hes getting worse by he game and cant shoot.  Let Colby King run the show.  Maybe he can shoot the ball.

Let Pinzon run the show next year. He’s bigger, has a better basketball IQ, has a better shot .

Don’t ever sell Posh short. He’s the best hustler I can remember in a SJU uniform.

Cragg's response:

Dear RSNC,

thank you for continued support of our incredible basketball program. It's donations from loyal fans like you.......

His confidence looks shot. Same as Champ's. Neither are given the luxury of an off game. Lots of pressure on those 2. Not their fault. Surround them with more talent, and this wouldn't be an issue.

Myles Cale said "it's a little easier" to defend a star player when the opposition doesn't make you chase him around screens. #sjubb #shbb

Silly comments.  Posh needs to improve his shot and has flaws but he’s a good player and a warrior.  He is not the problem.  One poster just wrote that King, a two star recruit, would do a better job running the show as a freshman next year.  Some of you are insane!
