All Realignment Talk Here

http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=5184

So, looking into the very near future here’s our very best guess of the sequence of events for the Big East.

1. Sign main television deal with NBC, with secondary deals with CBS and perhaps TBS or Fox–and ESPN.

2. Announce that the break up for the Catholic 7, as well as Rutgers, Louisville and Notre Dame will officially begin on July 1, 2014.

4. Announce that the Big East will retain its name, leaving the Catholic 7 group to come up with a new name.

5. Announce that East Carolina will be included as a full member, joining Tulane in 2014 as a full member.

6. Announce that future expansion is on hold (with Tulsa and Massachusetts as logical contenders) until 2015

No way Siena is in it...they are god awful. They had like 1 or 2 good years, and that's it. The only MAAC school that would even MAYBE make sense to compete at that level is Iona, but we don't want them...we want to be the only NYC school.

I beat Re-alignment Rob to something :)

This is another reason why they don't deserve the name. One of the biggest 'names' in the conference is still looking to get out. No doubt the same is for Uconn as well

Univ. of Cincinnati trustees today will vote on a proposed $2M in design money for a new pavilion at Nippert Stadium, "a project it's actively pitching as it tries to win entry to a different athletic conference." UC last month sent a video description of the $70M project to ACC school presidents. The renovation, targeted for completion in August '15, would allow the UC athletic department to "generate millions of dollars that it could reinvest in facilities" (CINCINNATI.com, 2/18).

Moose, of course they want to get out. They allowed that mutt from Pittsburgh to undermine the 13 plus million they would have enjoyed from ESPN. Now they have a whole 2 1/2 million to enjoy from NBC. Makes you think that ESPN, was behind this, because they have the teams they want in the leagues they want for less money. American corporations have been know to do things like this for even less payout.

You dont know much about the MAAC.

Forget about Detroit Mercy, Northeastern, St. Joseph's, Temple, Dayton.
Bring in serious programs only. Butler, Gonzaga, Xavier, St. Louis.
There will still be some movement in conference realignment the next three
years, so be patient and maybe we'll grab someone great !!

Dayton does not belong in the group you listed above. They are a very solid program with one of the best attendance figures in the country over the last 30 years. Dayton's fans pack the house virtually every single game and they travel very well. That will only improve in a better league. The last thing this league needs is more 5-6 thousand capacity venues.

Their fans traveled to Charleston in amazing numbers this year.

Also their fans pile into the Play in game every year including years prior when it was the two WORST teams in the tournament playing. We can't even get fans to watch us play good teams.

Big 10 talk buzzing again. #UVA being mentioned often as likely to join. Georgia Tech still in the mix. #UNC, the big domino, has an offer.

This is the guy who broke the Maryland/Rutgers story.

Wish Duke would quit football.

This makes you happy the C-7 had the nerve to break away from what is left of the Big East. This football crap will continue, and I think a lot more is yet to happen. Let us add the teams to our core 7 and set up our league and let the rest of the schools slug it out...........

You do realize I attended a MAAC school for undergrad right? Siena is not that competitive academically and has 6 NCAA appearances ever. They had a very good team a few years back, but that team is long gone.

But to Mase's point, one in the MAAC would know Iona's area hold about 2k, and they have no alternate arena. So that is not even a maybe. But yeah, last year they had a low to mid-level BE caliber team.

We need to pray for the Pac-12 to reinvestigate adding Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., and Texas Tech/Baylor. I think that would set off a final massive poaching nationwide and lead to Duke and Wake Forest representing the entire membership of the ACC. Unfortunately, I don't think it's in the cards.

Than you should no better than to say "They had like 1 or 2 good years, and that's it." Siena has gone to the NCAA tourny 5 times in the past 14 years, 3 of those times they won a game (one was a play in) and in two other years during that stretch they made the NIT winning another 3 games total. Iona a better fit? A program who has won, count them, 2 postseason games combined in both the NCAA & NIT ( NCAA win was later vacated) during their illustrious history. 1 team plays in a 16,000 seat arena, the other plays in a high school gym. Neither team should be in the new conference, but if it was one or the other it really isn't even a debate. Don't let baldi fool you.

Marist. We are now terrible, but we had some great battles with Siena (the main rival) around the 07/08 years. I remember seeing Siena shock Ohio State and their teams with Rossiter/Hasbrouck/Ubiles/etc. They were great then, but Siena is not the historic basketball school you want. Even as much as I hate Creighton, at least they have over 10 NCAA appearances and are one of the premier mid majors. I would probably take Fairfield, Iona, Stony Brook (I know they are America East), etc. well before Siena. So what they play at the big arena? That doesn't mean you are good. Their enrollment is less than 5,000 I believe. The place would be empty as it usually is. Go look at a list of all 300+ DI basketball schools with 6 NCAA berths and I guarantee you the company would be pretty bad. When you consider some of the lower tier Big East teams (Providence, DePaul) have well over double the NCAA berths as Siena, you can see they aren't a competitive fit. Every team has its good years and bad years. Siena just happened to have a few great years in the late 00's and now they suck again. It's not like they are one of those mid majors that is consistently dominating their conferences like Butler, Xavier, VCU, etc.

To see the name Siena mentioned is slightly disturbing. It could only mean that one or two of the coveted A10 schools is balking. Hopefully it is a joke.
Speaking of VCU, they are nationally ranked but got walloped tonight at St. Louis in front of 10,000 Billikin lunatics. St. Louis is a "must-get" IMO. Great facilities, great city and strong in Olympic sports.

If I had to pick one from that list (wouldn't want any in our conference), Siena would probably be last. Fairfield has been better than Siena the past few years, Iona is starting to attract big time players and was amazing last year, and Stony Brook already has 20 wins this year and just missed the tourney last year by the skin of their teeth in the America East champ game. Stony Brook's athletics are in the midst of a renaissance...their football team has been dominant and nearly took down Cuse earlier this year, their basketball team has really taken off and will likely be invited to the A-10 when they lose Xavier and Butler, their lax team is among the best in the nation, etc. SB would be a very scary team to face as an early OOC foe.
