All Realignment Talk Here

This is great news, indeed. Like a lot of posters here, I'm glad to see we are taking a more assertive approach and looking out for our interests.

I haven't been following all the details on this, but is it clear who is taking the lead among the Catholic 7?

So potential members like Xavier and Butler are "thought" to be okay with getting less than half of what Depaul, Seton Hall and PC will get? The new league needs them as much as they need the new league. Should be interesting.

The new league centers around the big markets. They'll all split NCAA monies which is more important than the tv deal. Fox pays to have NY, DC etc, not Omaha Nebraska. I'm pretty sure it will be worked out so all parties are happy. Regardless, this news of a tv deal like this is extremely promising.

Fox Sports 1 is the high bidder so far apparently...the reason they are paying so much could be to make their first big splash in the sports market and get their network out there. It's great that it's known already that we can command big money, so it fosters competition with NBC Sports and ESPN while also proving to Butler, Xavier, etc. that the grass is MUCH greener for them here. If we do get that 5 mil...that's double what we make now...that's huge...money to pay big time coaches, nicer facilities, gear, equipment, etc.

I don't like this uneven split of revenue but I can understand it for the first few years. After that though, they need to share equally or else there will be a lot of unhappy parties IMO.

The below linked 23 minute video which highlights the big time commitment which St. Louis University has made to it's stated goal off winning a men's basketball national championship. SLU's commitment extends beyond mere dollars. SLU views winning athletics as a part of it's mission and understands how athletics brings it community together and promotes the image of the University.

I was formerly dismissive about SLU being included in the C7 but after watching the video I believe SLU would be a great addition.

Sounds like they're serious about being part of the new league. They look like a real solid candidate.

The possibilities of our new conference is extremely exciting. Can't wait to see how this pans out. Looks like we will have some great additions.

Under ordinary circumstances I think they are a lock to be the 10th team.

But I think the conference first sits back for a while to see if realignment strands a big-name school or two that could be convinced to park football in the MAC or MWC, presuming they agree to a monster exit fee.

Rumblings are Marquette and STJ have been the primary driving forces.

Probably things get negotiated anew when new teams join..
if not, I suspect some agreement along the lines you noted would be
needed to attract the other parties to commit.

That's funny, some of the Marquette posters said G'Town and STJ led the coupe.
Either way, kudos to Fr. Harrington.

"NCAA monies are more important than the TV deal"...

What do you mean here?....are you talking about the previously earned NCAA credits that are to be negotiated or future credits which are worth approx $240,000/game played in the NCAA tourney. Either way, I'm not sure how this would be more important than a few $million per year per school guaranteed over 10 years

You're rig Alex. I shouldn't have said that. It would have been the case prior, but with the substantial figures being talked about now, the tv money becomes greater issue.

L J S A,

There are no remaining "big name" FBS schools other than Yukon and Cincinnati that the C7 would have interest in.

My gut tells me that either the B10 and/or the B12 will take additional ACC schools which should provide a safe landing for Yukon & Cincy.

I agree OTIS. Cincy to the 12 and Uconn to the ACC may be feasible. However, Uconn may have lost its appeal with the sanctions and retirement of Jim Calhoun. Plus, the ACC has already gotten bigger than anyone expected with more TV income to divide. Give me St. Louis, Xavier and Butler and we are cooking with gas!
