Butler President Speaks On Big East Realignment
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- In response to the recent Big East Conference realignment announcement and the news that Butler is a potential candidate to join the “Catholic 7” universities in a new athletic league, President James Danko issued the following statement:
“I greatly respect—and agree with—the collective conviction of the “Catholic 7” to control their own destiny or someone else will. Butler, too, has controlled its destiny proactively, for example, when it made the decision to join the outstanding Atlantic 10 Conference and through its values-based approach to athletics.
The fact that Butler is now being mentioned prominently as a potential candidate to join the “Catholic 7” universities in a new athletic league, is a tribute to the success of our athletic program overall and our men’s basketball team, in particular.
Our team has proven consistently and continuously that it is one of the very best in the nation, and that they are one of the biggest brands in men’s college basketball. This national prestige naturally leads to speculation about Butler’s athletic future.
Our administrators, our coaches, our trustees and our team will continue to do what is right for Butler and its students. Decisions will be made, first and foremost, with the University’s strong values and The Butler Way at heart. Our uncompromising commitments to integrity, to placing one’s team above oneself, and to the academic and personal growth of each of our student-athletes will remain paramount.”

No outright denial haha
Pitt will be 5th fiddle in the ACC at best. I certainly can see Dixon replacing Howland at UCLA. I think it is very likely in fact.
In my opinion maybe if our break happened sooner. But, still, the money in the contract from the ACC will be more and they only committed to 4 or 5 ACC football games. What a coup that would be if it happens! Is there any possible chance that we can lure Notre Dame to join us?
What will become of UCONN ? and Temple and Memphis ?
Plus, no other school in America is willing to pay a basketball coach $4 million dollars a year. Including UCLA, in my opinion. That's double what they pay Howland now.
According to Forbes Self, Izzo, and Donovan are the only other coaches above $3mil, and they're all half a mil or more away from Cal.
He's not going anywhere.
Let's be fair about it. They have to give Calipari a lot of money, to account for the portion of his salary that gets "redistributed."
UCONN fans are very grateful the Catholic 7 are staying till 2015. There's alot of gloom over there in UCONN now.
They'd love to get into the ACC but Boston College blocks them and Clemson and FSU threatened to leave if they took UCONN. Add to that, the ACC schools are still bitter that Ct's Attorney General Blumenthal sued them for raiding the BE.
What will become of UCONN ? and Temple and Memphis ?
For now, just add Butler and Xavier and Gonzaga. I don't want those other schools. Pick off 1 good team after another and build strength. I wouldn't be surprised if UConn comes back into the fold after they realize their not wanted anywhere with their so so football program.
.... and what another nBig East coach says:
"“It’s going to be a great opportunity for us.... I’m extremely excited that something is being done for basketball.”
When asked if the move was bittersweet, Willard, who grew up watching Big East basketball, offered a terse response. “Talk to Syracuse and Pittsburgh. They started it all. If Syracuse and Pittsburgh had stayed in the conference, I don’t think anybody would have gone through this. Everybody should go ask those two schools if they feel sad. I don’t think they do. I don’t think they care. I do, but that’s irrelevant.” Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard
