All Realignment Talk Here

The A-10 saying they would accept Big East schools is like some of our single posters saying they would accept Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie if they left their partners. Of course they will. I never thought I come to this point, but we need to get far away from the remaining Big East football team members.

Average Attendance national rankings:

St. John's (#54)
Georgetown (#35)
Villanova (#44)
Providence (#63)
Seton Hall (#76)
Depaul (#67)
Marquette (#13)

Creighton (#6)
Dayton (#28)
Wichita State (#38)
Xavier (#39)
St. Louis (#66, but historicaly top 25)
Gonzaga (#85)
Butler (#78)

That would be a helluva conference. Every team inside the top 85 in average attendance, no weaklings, and the biggest TV markets of any conference in the country. First I would try to sell BYU on joining a religous-focused conference and keeping its football as and independent.

Great job with those attendance figures. I had no idea Creighton draws so high. Dayton I figured because Traczok had said they traveled so well to Charleston.

Whichita State I never would have guessed either.

I guess the biggest thing also is not just what they draw but how do they do as far as TV audience ?

I'm surprised Butler is so low ? Do they have a small gym or something ?

If you catch a Creighton home game on TV one day, you'll see that it looks like an NBA game with the crowd they draw.

And Wichita State is basketball crazy too. I was expecting them to be higher than 38.

Butler's historic field house is pretty small, I think.

The absolute worst case scenario is we stay in the BE. Sad to admit but I think most would agree with that. You think James Dolan is going to waste his time hosting Tulane vs DePaul in the 1st round of the BE tournament? The A10 is not attractive to me either we are selling ourselves short.
Like I said before dissolve the BE and start from scratch with 7 pure basketball programs from the artist formerly known as the Big East. You guys think its crazy but the ACC isn't as strong as people think, they have some schools looking to jump ship. Pulling Duke away from them won't be easy but that would put us in a phenomenal position.

Look at the #'s needed to disolve? I'm sure that was the crux of Sunday's meeting.
You don't think these 7 schools have already been contacted?
Ball is in their court.
Let the cherry picking begin.

"I think you'll find the exact same measurements as our gym back in Hickory."

FWIW... as posted on the Georgetown site:

The Catholic schools are seriously considering splitting. While maintaining the Big East brand as their own. In addition, they would like to add St Louis, Xavier, Dayton, Butler and VCU. But the kicker I found interesting was that they believe they can also add Cinci, UConn, Temple, and Memphis, rendering the current Big East football members to a football only conference which many believe would be better anyway. Ultimately the New Big East would have 16 members in all sports (minus football of course). They would keep MSG for conference tourney. Would have markets in NY, Chicago, DC, Philly, among others. And would be a competitive top 5 basketball conference that also allows for other sports to keep a more regional schedule. In addition, ESPN has hinted that they would be willing to pay somewhere in the range of 20-25 million for this arrangement, which would be similar to any deal that they would get by remaining in the current set up. That is the other big consideraton. I think the fastest thing that will kill conference is a rival school saying "do you want to play in front of 3,000 fans like you are still in high school?" The coaches of the conference I proposed could point to these attendance figures and use it as a selling point. Also the chance to play in huge tv markets and travel the country.

I think this is the format we will be going to. Returning the Big East to the basketball-centric roots it once stood for. All schools mentioned have strong foundations for a bball conference and strong attendance figures. A new league should boost that as well as recruiting for many of these schools. BCS schools not going to enjoy playing many of the schools in a league like that.

Sounds great in theory but I'd put the chances of Cincy and UConn being okay with that scenario at 0%. We're looking at it from the basketball side of things. On ESPNU (halftime of St. Joes/Nova) last night I heard that all 7 schools aren't even aligned in their wants and Georgetown is still trying to get a football conference to take them on in a basketball only capacity.

Nobody knows what's going on and is only speculation until it happens.

Nice work on the attendance stats Marillac.
That league would be stronger/ more stable than staying in the current BE.

I'm not sure you would get Gonzaga though. That's a lot of traveling for them, and no west coast partners.
