All Realignment Talk Here

Time for an all basketball Catholic League consisting of SJU, GTown, Nova, Providence, SH, Depaul, Gonzaga, Xavier, Creighton, St Joe,s, St Louis, Marquette, Not a bad lineup! I would call it the "SOVEREIGN LEAGUE" with representation in many key TV markets across the country. NYC, DC, Philly, New England, Chicago, Midwest, and Washington. Comments!

one of the boldest things the administration has done is firing norm and hiring lavin but i can't see them making another bold move and bolting the bigeast. i hope its not true but i think they are going sit and wait it out which is not going to bode well for st john's

The hoop schools are in the majority until 7-1-13.
I'm an optimist.
Something tells me we'll fare fine in the end.

Nothing like fixing something that's not broken huh? What a sad time for college hoops. I don't know if I could ever get used to SJ as a mid major. It just doesn't sound right. No one is even mentioning the fact that our great lax, soccer, baseball, and women's basketball teams will also suffer. Our conference is being flooded with disgusting teams like Tulane, Houston, East Carolina, SMU, etc. If money really talks, you would think Harrington would do as much as he could to keep us as a major team, since falling to a mid major level would cause us to lose at least 1 million. Will MSG even want us still as a mid major? We have a low fanbase as it is...if we become mid major you will hear crickets at games. Amazing how we are on this parabola of emotions. We have a terrible decade, then Lavin comes and rejuvenates the program taking us to the tourney beating top 10 teams, then we get the #2 class, then we get another top 25 class and things are really looking up again, now it all hits rock bottom when the Big East collapses. Just when we start to make moves in the Big East, all the great teams leave. What a raw deal. I can't stand greed...it ruins everything we value in life that you can't pay for. If throwing students off a bridge paid Universities more, they would do it. Greed levels are unreal and interest in college sports will be way down as a result of this.

Me: If you were a power broker at Seton Hall, what would you be doing right now?

.

A Power Broker at Seton Hall is kind of like Lipa in the Rockaways

Gonzaga doesn't need us, and they won't want to travel that far.

Gonzaga would look much better in a league with us than a league with only St. Mary's as the only other major player. At this point, location doesn't matter.

From a business standpoint what do they really have to gain ? They are already real good and have found their niche and their travel costs would go up dramatically and their profits down

They would play much better competition facing SJ, Xavier, SH, DePaul, Nova, UConn, G'Town, Memphis, Temple, etc. than Pepperdine, Portland, SD, Loyola, SF, and Santa Clara. Not even close. The only good teams they face in conference are BYU and St. Mary's and even they would lose to most of the teams in the "new" basketball only Big East.

I agree it's better competition but college athletics is a business as we have seen the last month.

They have nothing to gain. It's not like they are hurting for competition to get them to the tourney.

To use a business analogy if you're dairy queen you dont come to manhattan just because it's a big market

Why are you so certain any new conference will include UConn, Memphis, and Temple? They have football, and will go whichever way the money blows them.

Zags are in the NCAA Tournament every year and have no real monetary reason to leave their conference. I'm sure they could care less about playing teams like St. John's and Georgetown.

Highly doubtful they will make more in the WCC playing those cupcakes than in a new Big East basketball only conference.

#1 no one knows what that will generate in a deal. #2 Travel costs are huge.

Trust me I know. Free miles only get you so far

On a positive note, if a team like Gonzaga could make the NCAA tourny every year in a mediocre conference, theres hope for SJU.

They are way out in Spokane, so I'm not sure how many non-glamour athletes get stuffed on a bus to begin with, but you can't do that at all if your nearest game is Chicago.

16-game conference schedule. You play every one in your division home and home, everyone in the other division one a year with a three home, three away split.

I'd be very happy with that lineup. 5 maybe 6 bids out of there

Excellent group Della and something that is very realistic.
Would be a strong conference of schools with a good bball tradition.
I nominate Della for BE Commissioner.

Here is what Lavin had to say recently:
"While sad to see yet another program bolt the Big East with the announcement Louisville is headed to the ACC, Lavin didn’t seem worried about the future. “We’ll continue to thrive,” the third-year coach said. “The league and schools have what is essential to do what it takes to be great basketball programs. They’ll continue to move forward and forge ahead.” …
