All Realignment Talk Here

Look at twitter...exploding with SJ and G'Town to ACC rumors. Even the official ACC Football page tweeted it (I think it's official at least there were thousands of followers).

What are you talking about? Twitter is not exploding with rumors. It's fans citing Roger Rubin's article from this past weekend.

Georgetown and St. John's are not a priority for the ACC right now. Their priority is locking up football programs to keep their conference FB relevant. If all else fails, then they'll concentrate on becoming the most dominant basketball conference in America. But they aren't worried about adding 2 non-FB playing schools at the moment.

No. The rumor is that ESPN is all but forcing the ACC to take us, Nova, UConn, and G'Town. The ACC isn't in the driver seat, ESPN is. ESPN would LOVE to lock all these teams up in a contract and get huge paydays from Duke, UNC, Cuse, Pitt, Nova, SJ, UConn, etc. at MSG. Also saw rumors we applied to both the Big Ten and the ACC, presumably incase 1 says no we have 2 chances. Marco Baldi also claims to have inside knowledge and is saying we are headed to the ACC.

ACC should add Georgetown and SJU at minimum from the bball schools. Sooner or later they are going to realize that there is lots of value in having the best bball conference. Bball is a ton cheaper to fund than football, but putting out a great conference product in the biggest markets means big money.

Even if the Big East as we know it is dissolving, the ACC is becoming the new Big East. Certainly I have bias, but I think the ACC would be smart to add a couple of bball only schools like SJU and Georgetown in Big markets and solidify the rep of the league basketball-wise. The ACC will never be anything near the SEC nor Big 10 in football. Make it a fantastic all-sports conference focused in both football and basketball. Very little to lose by taking 2 bbal-online a like SJU and Georgetown. Only split bball dollars anyway, and we can play almost all other sports at a high level as proven.

if you assume that each of the big 4 conferences (big 10, sec, big 12 and pac 12) will max out at 16 schools and that the pac 12 would only add 4 schools from the west, it leaves the following:

big 10 - 2 open slots (14 current members)
sec - 2 open slots (14 current members)
big 12 - 6 open slots (10 current members)

the acc will get picked apart and i could see the sec adding virginia tech and nc state (they currently have no presence in north carolina or virginia).....the big 10 could add unc and uva....and the big 12 could add fsu, clemson, georgia tech, miami, pitt and louisville....

that would leave bc, duke and wake forest in the dust....uconn and syracuse would also be screwed....

at that point, i could see an acc/big east hybrid conference with some all sports members and some basketball-only members....

the whole thing is just insane....

Interesting post.
Question is, does endee still get a free ride with those 4 conferences controlling the schedules and bowls?

And we're right back where we started from.

The best scenario for us would be a merge between the Big East and ACC remaining schools and let the SDSU's and Boise St's stay out west. Football would be Boston College, Duke, Wake, Syracuse, Pitt, Uconn, North Carolina, South Florida, Cincinnati, Louisville, Temple and Memphis. 12 teams. The Basketball league would be the best top to bottom St. Johns, Syracuse, Pitt, Uconn, Louisville,Temple, Cincinnati, Marquette, Depaul, Nova,Providence, Seton Hall, Gtown Duke, North Carolina, Wake, Boston College and Memphis. 18 teams. I know its wishful thinking, but no matter how they swing it the ACC and Big East will be the bottom of the football ladder if all these moves happen.

It'll be much more fun just watching now.
B1G will take 2 more to get to 16-both will be ACC teams.
SEC will take 2 more-both will be ACC teams.
Big 12 could take as many as 6-ACC will compose most of that #, along with maybe Louisville.

It may be time for the Big East Commish to call Xavier in attempt to shore up basketball competitiveness.

Little premature.
I'd give villanova at least another week to prove themselves before replacing them with Xavier.

Problem is the ACC is going to have the best basketball conference in America with or without St. John's and Georgetown.

Not necessarily...If the implosion continues, I would agree...If not, they wont necessarily be better...other than Syracuse, all other losses have been negated...

I know it is wishful thinking...but, if Big East somehow stabilizes...the new additions will benefit from being members just as Pitt, UCONN et al did...they were nothing before the Big East...

Not necessarily. ACC is going to get raided now. The dominoes still seem to be falling. We might have to look at other ACC schools like Duke to join up with down the road because don't seem them making the cut in any of the big football leagues. Lots of schools with mediocre to poor football teams are going to get passed by. This thing is just starting up again, so the rules are all changing.

Agree with Section 3's and MCN's latest posts. My brother and I were talking about the same thing last night. The ACC is in the process of losing some schools. I'm envisioning several more moves.

The Big East may very, well be fine when the dust eventually settles.

I heard Mike Aresco on the radio this morning, and I agree with him. He said he doesn't think other conferences are necessarily eager to get to 16 teams, it presents too many logistical problems in terms of an even schedule and there's diminishing rewards financially. It's not a given that adding two teams, even in new markets will make the SEC contract any more valuable because there's only so many hours of meaningful programming that the networks get from the contract.

I think it's pretty much a certainty that the ACC takes at least one of the BIg East's remaining teams, and equally certain the Big12 will expand to 12 teams so they can have a conference championship game.
But, beyond that - I don't think the Big10 or SEC are looking to add more teams right now. Especially the SEC. Their ADs are furious over the scheduling that has resulted from 14 teams.

And the demise of the ACC is being exaggerated. Even if they were to lose a team or two, they would still have meaningful football and excellent basketball.
The ACC isn't going anywhere. And it certainly isn't "merging" with the Big East, it will just raid the Big East for 2 teams to fill it's void.

To those who keep saying we have no leverage. Not really, because big brother ESPN has our back. ESPN has a ton of leverage because they are the ones who will pay the ACC in the end. If they say we want the NYC market and MSG (which they are saying) then it would behoove the ACC to listen. If the ACC tries to play hardball, they may lose money on the deal. As we know money drives all, and the market we bring with MSG games with all the major teams certainly will generate more money than being without us. It makes way more sense than many people seem to realize. Duke, UNC, Cuse, SJ, Pitt, G'Town, UConn, Nova, etc. in the Garden is basically a guaranteed sell out. The only thing I don't get is how I've heard rumors that we "are next in line". I would think UConn and G'town are added before us.
