Ottavino has been a disaster so far as have Yankee bats against Astro's two aces.

Not a good look tonight. Didn't see any fire in their bellies. Swinging at first pitches. Lots of lazy swings.

Tough to climb out of this hole with a rainout.

o adam - has been a disaster the last few weeks.
yanks were swinging at first pitch early in the game - that is not their sop.
leaving a runner on 2nd base (and other bases) in 3 early innings hurt.
painful to see didi's drive to the short porch wall fall just short
kraken, the speedster, & parrot power in deep slumps.

This performance is no great surprise. Team is built to pummel mediocre regular season pitching, then not do so against real good starting pitchers like Verlander and Cole. How do you build a team where only 1 starter gets you into the 6th inning? How do you have a pitching staff that requires 4 or 5 relievers to be perfect every night? Then you have Boone making questionable decisions. Tell me why Torres was not batting 3rd? Inexcusable.

the yanks did lead mlb in runs scored.
the yanks counted on german to be a post season starter.
why the speedster is not batting 9th in order, even though he is one of the few lefties in the lineup, befuddles me.
boone's pitching decisions confuses me.
in game 3 - adam o & a timely hit would have helped.

Tonight's game postponed until tomorrow night. If the series goes that far they will be playing four games in a row.

This really is worst case scenario for the Yanks, since they want to use the bullpen so much. I suspect Greinke will figure things out and shut down the Yankees tomorrow. I'm not sure this series goes back to Houston.

I think they will beat Greinke. It is Cole, Verlander and overusing the bullpen that I'm worried about.

In regards to mediocre pitching the Astros are the Astros. Arguably the top 1-2-3 in the league. But lets not gloss over while the Yankees won over 100 games they had the best record against teams over 500.
I'll take Tanaka over Greinke.
Agreed.
Yankees win Game 4.
Then however the real fun begins

Not a Yankee fan but they have a great offensive team. The fact is no team can be devised to overcome pitchers like Verlander and Cole, just the way of baseball.

But the interesting thing is they weren’t dominated. The had plenty of chances with guys on base against Cole. And with Verlander the weak ABs came against the pen of the Astros. Baseball can be a wacky game. Maybe this series has a few more twists and turns.

Agreed, my description of them offensively is admittedly flawed because it is primarily based on stats but also on watching tough at bat after tough at bat against two great pitchers in the last two games.

Game 4 lineups.

Astros:
Springer CF
Altuve 2B
Brantley LF
Bregman 3B
Gurriel 1B

Reddick RF

Yankees:
LeMahieu 1B

Hicks CF
Torres 2B
Encarnacion DH
Gardner CF
Sanchez C
Urshela 3B
Gregorius SS

How in the hell is Hicks batting third in such a critical game? Torres has to be hitting 3rd. I have zero confidence in Boone running this team.

Sanchez should be benched. He is clueless lately. He is sure not playing because of his defensive ability!

Don't count on that happening anytime soon. He's the GM's second favorite player, after Hicks.
